Importing from Canada - Duty and Taxes?

My understanding is that when the pause on the 25% blanket tariffs on Canada is up on April 2nd, it doesn’t matter. If it’s a Canadian born horse (or a horse you can’t prove an origin on) you’ll be paying 25% on top of the purchase price to the US government if you’re importing from Canada.

Yeah…I don’t think there are too many happy with any of this. It’s going to cause the price of a lot of goods to up. US manufacturers aren’t going to hold prices steady when their Mexican and Canadian counterpart goods are going up by 25% due to the tariffs. And they definitely aren’t going to come back down to early Jan 2025 prices if and when the tariffs are lifted.

There is another discussion in “Off Course” about importing horses from Canada. I mentioned my experience importing a horse from Canada in late January. The import fee was $300, the same as you were quoted. You should be good until the tariffs are enacted.
