Importing Horses--Are tariffs going to apply?

I think @sixteenhands was referring to the PDF the other poster had linked.

The original poster asked about importing from Europe.

I don’t need computer advice, thanks.

I was surprised the poster gave advice to PC users only because she thought the elderly didn’t know how to search the Internet. I was being sarcastic.

??? I wasn’t suggesting you did. I am also perfectly fluent in sarcasm. I was just was trying to clarify to sparkygrace what you were referring to. I rarely try to give computer advice. I’m pretty handy, but usually there’s a better response here before I get to it.

Yes, and news today about a new universal tariff plan could impact importing from anywhere.

For sure. 25% on importing horses from the EU :grimacing: I see rough times ahead for many businesses including the horse business and horse sales!

Ecclestone Horse Transport posted this information on Facebook. I can’t verify whether it is true or not.

*Tariff Update: Canada Exempt From Today’s Reciprocal Tariff Announcement. *

This afternoon the USA Administration announced a baseline 10% tariff on all goods, from all countries, except those compliant with the USMCA free trade agreement, between Mexico, Canada, and the United States. (Non-compliant goods to remain at the 25% rate).

This means, at this time, there are NO tariffs on horses entering the USA from Canada. Similarly, horses remain free of tariffs upon entry to Canada from USA.

While many resources shared within our industry have aimed to be helpful, as expressed in our prior update, they were largely speculative in nature. Today’s announcement serves as a reminder that we must all take pause, while allowing our elected officials to negotiate a resolution to this ongoing matter.
