Ive used it for 3 different horses;
Horse A- all 3 injections with zero issues, resolution of symptoms
Horse B- a sensitive horse by nature, had a baseball sized swelling at the first shot and then a huge allergic reaction to the second shot (requiring dex, banamine etc…) but did see an improvement in the ulcer sypmtons
Horse C- had a softball sized reaction to the first shot, fever and stiffness all of which lasted a little over a week.
All in all I probably wont try it again- the risk of the reaction is just to great for the small reward of not having to dose the horse daily!
A little bit of a tangent from the OP, but I have questions. Is this suspension from Wedgewood? Do you (or anyone else who uses compound) know how stable the various compounds are? Say if I used a liquid or powder for shows and not daily use, if it’s stable enough to use and keep over the course of some time?
I’ve previously used a misoprostol only suspension from Wedgewood and a powder compounded by Rood and Riddle. I can’t remember the exact shelf lives but it really depends on when the batch of meds was compounded. If you happen to order right after they mix a new batch, you’ll get the longest shelf life.
IIRC, the suspension had an expiration date 2-3 months after it was bottled. The powder was more like 4-6 months. I don’t know what options Wedgewood has for dosage strength and quantity, but R&R makes a miso suspension that you can purchase in quantities as small as a 20 dose bottle, or 30 dose jars of powder. That might be the way to go for sporadic use at shows to keep the cost down and lessen the risk of having a bunch of expired meds sitting around.
My vet has used it when she lived in the states and had no reactions.
It was supposed to be for a short term management issue (2 doses over 2 weeks) but we have now fixed the issue. The meds did not ship in time for our appointment so I am on the fence to give him one shot or just scraping the plan all together
We just finished a 30 day course last week. Seems to have worked beautifully. No signs of ulcer flares or weight loss post-move, didn’t go off his feed. Overall seems to have settled in beautifully.
My guy is a 1300lb TB - we gave him 20cc of the Omeprazole/Miso suspension in the morning and then 2 of the 1400mcg Gourmeds miso tablets (2800mcg total) before his PM grain. Total for 30 days was ~$500. Pretty darn reasonable for a full month of two different ulcer meds.
