Interest in Ladies foxhunting clinic weekend

sar got the p.m. a few minutes later…

“Patience!!! It is a virtue.” I tell myself that over and over again as my own little mantra.

Now let’s talk about puffy pants. Every now and then, the young ones over on the h/j board start in on how much they hate when old ladies’ breeches show their dimply thigh fat. (Mortebella clutches pearls and fans - they use the “c” word over there.) If this goes on long enough, I feel compelled to explain that what we’re forced to ride in these days and call “breeches” - are not. Might have once passed for jodhpurs, if a jodh had run away with a sausage casing and had a litter of cranky children who get WAY too familiar with you. All hail the puffy pants!

Roll call!!

Whicker-I think we need to do a roll call for this fun, adventurous weekend!

Sar,
You better plan on changing your horse’s appointment book. He is going to be way too busy at the coth hunt soiree to show up…:lol:

I ordered a pair of puffy pants. I’ve been riding in my full seats and long johns to get a feel for my comfort range temperature wise and I am SO sick of those low rise things sliding off my a$$ after 10 minutes. If they weren’t perfectly good breeches otherwise, I would have murdered them with scissors.

 Changed to this Saturday!! Woo hoo!!

Another perspective

Consider the age of the posters on the h/j forum… They are still growing into their adult figures… They are secretly jealous of the adult womanly form, so they disparage what they don’t yet have… In their hearts of hearts, they long to be…Ruebenesque!:lol:

Voluptuous takes time, and diligence. Cosemetics can only do so much. One has to grow into the state of grace and bearing to carry off the look of elegant, formidable, self-confident authority.

There are “relaxed” fit breeches that even have space for pockets that work and don’t look terrible while they are doing it. A bit of the seamstress art can do wonders to create the elegance that subtly makes the difference.

The darker shades of breeches do help to put the emphasis back at the top of the figure, where it belongs. Along with the big grin that goes with being comfortable.

And lots of chocolate.

I wear regular britches for hunting but I do prefer the polo/flared style. And I would even if I was thin. Easier to layer under, easier to move around in.

The latest hot fashion!!!

Smart Alex,
I am going to show you the latest fashion trend for the super hot set.

But I want these!

More than one way to keep those low rise from leaving on their own accord,:lol:

I’ll be there that weekend, too! I have told Hunter’s Rest that I will help in the kitchen. No riding for me. I’m going into my seventh month of injuries, ya’ll . . . what does a saddle feel like???

Wateryglen’s old britches are cursed. I bought them, I tried them on, then I got hurt and haven’t been able to ride. I’d lend them out, but they might be dangerous.

I like the puffy pants, and have spotted a pair of olive green corduroy on eBay if I want to try them out for schooling. I don’t think I can work the suspenders though. I have skinny sloping shoulders, and everything falls off them.
Whicker, thanks for the encouraging point of view. You’re right, the H/J riders at my barn are mostly teenagers, thin as a rail without any of those womanly curves. Even their calves are thin, hence the creation of “slim” boots. Unfortunately, I’ve discovered that slim boots don’t work for me
:(…who knew that knees could be muffin tops?

Don’t get my started on boots. I have muffin tops in extra wides. I have fat knees. I do. It’s particularly painful when the back of my knee muffins. I don’t even try to put on tall boots unless it’s early morning. By the end of the day sitting at my desk, the situation is impossible.

The suspenders are very cute. I can just imagine them letting loose in the back and snapping me in the head.

So the ice in the driveway and on the roadside has finally melted. During my lunch hour today, I zipped over to the barn for a quick gallop to see if I can still get up ina two point. My horse thought this was a stellar idea since we’ve been confined to the indoor since Thanksgiving. I pulled the leathers off my saddle New Year’s Day and have been riding either stirrupless, bareback or side saddle since then to get the maximum benefit to mucles and balance out of my ride time.

Apparently I’ve forgotten how the equipment works. I don’t know what I did when I hung the leathers, but I must not have pushed the buckle prong through the hole. When I went to mount, the stirrup ran right down the leather and off, depositing me, slow-motion, in an awkward heap between the mounting block and my horse who stood over me snorting and rolling his eyes as if to say “Isn’t it awfully early in the day for you to be drinking?”

Wardrobe malfunctions

Smart Alex,
I’m sorry that you had a saddle wardrobe malfunction. Better at the mounting block instead of in the gallop, though…

In other news,
The first suspender manufacturer has ones made for skiing that don’t come loose on their own. Get your $ back if they don’t pass your approval, even…

The “X” back ones frequently have an adjustable crossing fastener in the back, so you can raise or lower the “x” to the best place on your back/shoulders. Gentlemen refuse to put up with gear that malfunctions. Ever notice that the guys don’t wear the high heels? They only will wear what is comfortable and works easily.

00pisces,
I’ll look forward to meeting you!

Since everyone is sharing pics, I figured I would post one of my big dinosaur for identifying purposes

The sad thing is he’s every bit of 17 hands. And I make him look small

I… CAN’T… WAIT…

I am so very much looking forward to our girls weekend! I can’t believe how tough it’s been suffering from hunting withdrawals. When was the last time we went out… I truly can’t recall. Wait, four times since the beginning of December, and two of those outings were in VA!

It’s been frozen, greasy, sloppy. Rinse and repeat ALL winter. I know we’re all feeling the winter doldrums, but when will it end???

On a happier note, with my mare back in action (I’m so glad I didn’t loose her to an abscessed cellulitis in November) we’re working on a fitness program (together) to prep for VA! Dressage day (supple/lateral), Fitness day (trot sets in two point), Cavalletti day, and day off… Again, rinse repeat until we depart. Of course as soon as my mare hears the truck and trailer connect - Uh OH - time to find a way out of this trip… AGAIN… I’m not saying a word, and I intend to stick ear plugs in those big fuzzy ears when it comes time to hook up and hit the road! Thank goodness for the backup young one. He’s only been out twice, but was a saint both times. Having clipped him, he’s feeling his naked yahoo’s, so I’m hoping he settles down quickly. As a Draft cross I can’t imagine more than a day or two of whoopdeedooo’s.

It sounds like the princess party is in order, and Hunter’s Rest has made a number of suggestions for fun filled, educational outings. Each VA adventure has been more fun than the last, and I’m sure this trip will be no exception!

One question for all who intend to actually be astride… What is your horses fitness level, and what field do you plan to ride in?

My guy is pretty fit. Now we are doing gallop sets and some trail riding to get ready  IME, the only way to really get a horse fit to hunt is to go hunting!

I will be riding in second field, and dropping back to third if need be. He’s fit enough to go first, but…um…I haven’t hunted in about three years…so I don’t think I could handle it  and dropping back will probably be due to my legs getting ready to fall off

The slow boat to China

I think I’m going to be the least fit, along with my dressage diva, Ruby. My excuse is the eye that was zapped is taking FOREVER to heal and focus. Much of the time, it is like looking through a foggy mirror with a thin layer of grease on it. I just started back riding 3 days ago.

It is quite mushy, slippery, and tricky out in the fields and woods. One sinks into the ground too far, leaving holes that will need stomping to fill in. I live in fear of a potential suspensory injury. So I think I’m going to have to take to the asphalt to get the work done. If I work up to 30 minutes of non-stop trotting during the 3 weeks, we should, I hope be ok.

I’m planning on using a breastplate, just in case I lose my balance. I learned that one from Betsy. I’ve always gone for the mane, which works, too.

I’m going to be riding in the back of the 3rd field, so I can help with the gates, and whatever else Fieldmaster Betsy would like.

Queen B

PleasantMeadow,
If you get your back-up horse ready and the Queen knows that he is being prepped, she may allow herself to stay sound. Maybe you plan on bringing him, too. He goes on the trailer first, amid all conversation that he is the one hunting. She is just going along for the ride, to help him feel comfortable.

She doesn’t get to see her stuff go on the trailer. She is ok with hunting locally?

Do I need to send pics of her fabulous mink lined luxury suite? Or is better living through chemistry an alternative? I can have Ruby moan about “Some gooood alfalfaaaaa…”
