Nailed it! The horse is clearly talented but has been pushed too hard and too fast, which means the basics are lacking.
Perhaps Helgstrand’s DRF ban will occasion a slow down in Jovian’s training.
The breeding revenue prospects for young stallions are unfortunately unnaturally pushed by the age parameters of the World Breeding Dressage Championships (pilot project in 1997 in Verden, Germany, home of the Hanoverian Studbook).
Until 2015, horses competed in age groups of 5 & 6 year-olds. Since 2016, a Championships for 7-year-old horses has also been part of the event.
How about allowing stallions to really mature and be trained slowly and gradually, to then compete as 12 or 14 year-olds? It would be fascinating for breeders to see which stallions are sound and competitive then.
Jovian would have had time to, say, build strength for a proper piaffe.
Well sh.t, my own comment aged like milk now didn’t it.
At the same time, it should be a good reminder to all of us that the videos should not be a surprise.
