Is my horse round?

Yes! There it is!! The definition of round we have all been seeking!
there are some videos from the weeks between those videos, which I would prefer not to show…
You are right one difference is the tempo, but if you watched the IW video you would know why I rode different. And maybe you did not see it but the horse accepted the connection much better in the second video… In the first video she was going like she wanted to . I was adapting to the horse. Now the horse is adapting to me (at least thats what I am trying) and she had some huge melt downs in between because she did not like to adapt to me… I can only say for me its a great series of videos but everybody has to decide for themselves of course…
Manni, I’m glad you found a video resource that helped you solve a problem to your satisfaction. That’s always good to hear.
But with all due respect to the wonderful world of advice that is COTH, $60 is a lot of money for another person who might be working on different issues to spend on videos they might not even have time to watch :).
$60 is two months worth of grain or 1.5 lessons from my coach at her long time reduced rate or a tank of gas to go for a trail ride. Or 240 lbs of hay if my hay dealer is being honest on his weight. So well maybe not that much money in the grand scheme of things but more than I’ve ever spent on videos.
Also we haven’t taken the exchange rate into consideration. If they are $60 US they will probably be close to $100 CAN.
I agree with you, $60 is outrageous and not acceptable to pay. I bought them because a friend recommended them to me and because I was struggling with some things in my training. I do not have a regular trainer right now (financial reasons) and this problem was not really solved in the few clinics I attended. I was very doubtful in the beginning and did not want to buy them but I am glad that I did. Somehow a lot more efficient then lessons for my specific problem because in those videos it is shown very clearly what to do. Especially in the first one (as I said before, probably one DVD would be sufficient in order to understand her concept, ) but you are right, they are probably not worth the money.
Is this meant to be sarcasm? It’s hard to tell when the ramble ends and the scorn begins.
Is it so crazy that people would rather spend their time and money riding their own horses and paying for actual instruction than buying videos to facilitate a conversation with you about roundness? Nobody’s saying IW or this particular set of DVDs isn’t valuable. Only that they are a lot lower on personal priority lists than other things that demand our attention and financial resources. And frankly not everyone has $60 available in their budget for frivolous spending (which buying DVDs on the recommendation of an internet stranger certainly counts as in my book). It really doesn’t help your image as champion of the dressage poors to get snarky with people who say they’d rather buy hay than DVDs.
So are you sarcastic?? If you buy DVDs just to chat with others about them, thats fine. I buy DVDs to learn from them
Certainly didn’t see x-halts post as sarcastic, but honestly share her question about your previous post…I too can’t figure out if that is pure sarcasm or not, the joy of interpretation on the internet.
From my point of view, any spare $60 I have is going to my coach to talk me through finding my way to doing anything well, because I lack the skill to self appraise…I do get set homework of watching this or that rider, in freely available videos, but my value comes from riding it with someone there to feedback.
I am the wrong person to talk to then… I did my first 4th level tests this weekend with my homebred horse and today I had the most amazing feeling ever. I really really tried to ride like in the IW videos in the last 10 days since I had them and today I felt that it was really working!!! Unfortunately we had one moment where somehow I lost my connection and immediately she did a change. And then because I am stupid I didn’t correct to the right Canter. Therefore I also missed a change and got a 1 for it. If I would not have gotten this 4 and the 1 I even might have made it to the 60. everything else was 6 and 6.5. so so happy she felt amazing and I truly believe this happened because I tried to follow the advice she gave in the videos… last week I was not sure if we were ready for 4th level yet…
but I guess we can even stop to talk about this subject if nobody knows the videos and is not interested… not sure how much sense it makes to continue this
Like I said it’s great you found a video that was the right advice at the right time. That’s worth more than $60 US, indeed I d say quite unironically that it is priceless. It just doesnt make sense for me to pay that kind of money just to follow this thread, or to be part of a theoretical discussion on roundness.
Can we PLEASE get back to the topic of roundness and leave the DVDs alone for now??? Frankly the BS back and forth is tiring.
Manni did you ride 4th level on the horse you videod above? If so, I am going to assume he was more “round” than in the video…
The mods added my thread to this thread. I did open up a thread specifically for this topic. Not sure where to discuss it otherwise… And basically thats what the video is about. Showing how to get your horse round.
And no, in the video was my 5 year old. She is a baby and not able to do 4th level yet
havent updated in a while but wanted to report.
We have left this trainer. She ended up being not what we needed. Upon moving to a trainer who is more “classical” and believes in slow and steady my horse has BLOSSOMED. It is amazing what happens when you give them some freedom in their bodies. Changing trainers revealed all the weaknesses we were compensating for with heavy, heavy contact and a lot of “do it or else” training philosophies. Now she is expected to carry herself, but we are having to start over. Dropping from “second level” where we had more training holes than swiss cheese to Training level, and that’s ok.
With the trainer in the video above my horse was struggling to keep a topline. 8 weeks with the new lady and her back has NEVER EVER looked so good.
Old trainer’s idea of round was holding her there. New trainer wants her to go there on her own, not by force. It’s been a gamechanger for us.
But have you watched the DVDs?
:lol::lol::lol:
She probably should have… Thats pretty much what was missing in her videos… Its a lovely horse and the rider isn’t too bad either but obviously the roundness is missing… But you can all go to Tryon now and watch I.W. live… Maybe you figure out what system she uses in order to be that successful. I still use the system I learned from the DVDs BTW and I love it.
Not sure whether you should recommend that right now… There might be a Hurricane coming to Tryon…
Me?
You did.
You both did.
Glad you found a better place for you horse OP.
I would go to just to escape the DVD advertising!
