Invictus saddle pads

Hi All, Anyone try one yet? Thx, Fg

now wait just a minute… invictus saddle pads? where? if only my guy had been alive for a matchy pad with his name…

http://malvernsaddlery.com/4792/invictus-half-pad-detail

but it doesn’t say what it’s made of. harrumph.

There’s a website: invictus-equestrian.com

am pondering trying at some point…

looked up the d3o material and it is VERY shock absorbing (if a metal ball bearing can = human/horse, dunno)…OTOH it’s 1.1cm thick - which would kinda be like a thinline + an ultra…

the other component is 3d spacer material - like what equinelux uses except thinner.

In love with this pad! Love not having a bunch of bulk under my saddle. Highly recommend it.

Thanks, E. I’ll give it a try. fg

Element, how long is the pad? I have been hesitating cause my ponys back is so short that a lot of full sized pads rub. His trot feels like a machine gun and is totally able to bounce me out of the tack…which is why I am looking for the shock absorbption.

Is it much different to the ThinLine material?

yes - but what that means to the horse is beyond me…

thinline disperses pressure laterally…the d3o actually turns solid momentarily under high impact, and then softens again.

have been thinking some more - and the thinline may be better for what i need…

Any updates from people using this?

I’ve been using this for about a month on one of my horses. I was looking for something thinner than a mattes and a half pad that had some give to it. I got the version that allows you to add shims and bought the shims as well (you have to purchase separately which is a bit annoying). Have not used the shims yet but they are a neat material.

The pad fits perfectly under my 17.5 CWD, even with it’s 4C flaps and gives just the little bit of additional clearance I was needing. Horse who is the pickiest beast ever seems comfortable in it so far and it has cleared up an issue we were having with his shoulder getting stuck when I was using a mattes pad.

Thank you! That is very helpful. I am looking for something that is thicker than a Thinline but thinner than a Supracor…do you think this might fit that description? Also, do you think it would fit an 18" Tad Coffin (is there any additional room with your saddle)?

I know this doesn’t answer your question directly but I have one of these https://ogilvyequestrian.com/en/store/product/eventing-friction-free-pad and find it excellent. I’ve had it for over 4 years now and it is still intact. Has a thin piece of padding built in and the material on the bottom of the pad (against the horse) kind of slides along it. Just that bit of padding without the unnecessary bulk. Washes great; wish I had 5 more.

Hi there,

What do you mean by “shoulder getting stuck”? I wonder if that is what mine does. Thanks, fg

“shoulder getting stuck” (or shoulder interference) is a very severe and serious saddle fit issue. i hope for your horse’s sake you address it rather than stuffing pads under it, which can make it worse…

take some time to google what happens to the shoulders when an improper saddle is impinging on them… not pretty.

Beowulf, Can you elaborate? I have never heard of the term 'shoulder getting stuck". I’ve wondered about the shoulder relief girths to simply make the horse more comfortable. For the record, I believe my saddle fits well. It appears to fit well to me, but I’ve still had the fit evaluated by more than one professional saddle fit tell me it does, as well. Thanks. fg

Would like to bump this up. Interested in hearing more about the pad! Currently have an Ogilvy and a Supracor on the way. How would this compare?

Would love to hear more about the invictus half pads!

I have posted about this a few times since I bought one. I absolutely love mine.

I use it on several horses under my Tad Coffin TC2. These saddles are designed to be used with half pads, it is part of Tad’s “system.” But I don’t use his pads, I use a variety of others. I also have a Supracor, Oglivy and a Thinline Trifecta among others. I wanted a pad that had a closer feel like the Thinline, but for one horse I needed something thicker than the Thinline to keep the channel just a bit higher off his back. The TC2 looks beautiful when I am not sitting on it…textbook…but I felt like the channel was tight when I sat on it and worried it would hit his spine on the landing side of jumps.

So I was riding in the Supracor, but as usual felt SO Perched up there. The Supracor is a great pad but my horse is little (15.2 petite TB) and I just wanted something less thick that still did the job.

enter the Invictus with shims. I put both sets of shims in the pad for this horse and it fits beautifully. It had been working great, feels closer, the saddle stays off his back right where I want it and my horse is super happy.

I also love the chocolate color. It matches the leather on my Tad very well and is so discreet and tasteful in my view.

Here is a pic with all the shims in all the way around. Excuse my grubby fat pony, I took the pic for someone on a workday when I was rushing to get back to my desk and had a five minute tack up and groom: https://fordtraktor.shutterfly.com/pictures/176

All in all, gets an A+ from me. It was expensive especially with the shims, but worth it in my book.

I like the suede-like material so much better than my Ogilvy. I have had one of those for three years now and not even used it that much, it is too thick for most of my saddles -and wasn’t thick enough for this one, and already need to sew it back together where it has come apart on top. I have probably only washed it three or four times, too. It has worn pretty poorly. That pad gets a C. Adequate.

Thanks for the review fordtraktor. Going through the process of saddle fitting now. I’ve realized I either need 3 saddles for the 3 stages my guy’s back goes through as we train and get time off, or I need a saddle that fits well when he is in full work and then pad the other 3 months of the year. Ogilvy has been great for us after his month off every winter. I’m hoping Supracor can be a good intermediary pad when we have a topline too big for the Ogilvy. But I also want a pad with shims… I don’t like sheepskin rolls and think Mattes is too poofy. So Thinline or Invictus it is! Sounds like Invictus is the winner here
