Is 3/4 ton truck "enough" for a 2+1 trailer?

I pulled my C&C 2+1 (with extended DR) with my F250 for years, including up into the mountains of VT, with no problems at all. Loved that set up.

I wouldn’t touch a Sundowner given the many issues they’ve had with quality assurance and (lack of ) customer service. A quick search here should bring up quite a lot of info.

When I bought my new trailer this year (downsized to a 2H GN with DR) I really wanted a 4Star. Couldn’t find one locally and ended up with a Platinum… which I’ve been super pleased with. Just to give you another option.

Happy shopping.

The 4Star dealer here started selling Sundowners this year. Awesome for me since I now own a 4Star and a Sundowner. Can get them both serviced at the same place. I think how good or bad the dealer is has a lot to do with people’s experience also. My trainer bought a Sundowner last year and is happy with it. I am also happy with my 2011 Sundowner LQ I bought. Definitely not the same quality as the 4Star but so far I have no complaints.

Get a dually just to stick it to them:D[/QUOTE]

For anyone who may be interested…I’m currently negotiating the purchase of a dually.

OP, we just even traded our F250 for a F350 dually of same year. My problem was not trucks capability to pull or stop or the total weight (Hawk straight load with mid tack and 7 1/2 ft LQ), it was the weight on the drive axel. It was over weight and making the truck sit too much. I debated putting airbags on the truck, which would have solved the level problem, but not the weight distribution problem.

Bad girl, you are.

I test drove a barely used SRW and the dually, and while I would prefer the SRW for daily driving hands down (though not that particular truck as it smelled like ashtray), this is not intended to be a daily driver. The price is right on the dually, so now it’s just up to my lawyerly negotiating skills to get the finishing touches on the deal. The new neighbor who would be looking at my truck the most has a RAM so I don’t feel bad.

I talked to one GMC/Chevy dealer who was pushing a 2500 vs 3500 based on their used inventory but did mention that I’d probably prefer the one that had airbags already installed.
