I’ve been thinking. Maybe your horse was just so clean, shiny and gleaming that he caught the fieldmaster’s eye and s/he paid a compliment “that he was bright enough to scare the hounds” which fell a bit flat in the delivery.

It had to have been a joke. We’ve had every horse color possible in my hunt and as long as the horse is safe and mannerly the color doesn’t matter.
I do think that a picture of this “too-brightly colored” horse needs to be included in the thread, so that we can all make up our own minds!

Had to be a joke! It just had to be. I bet you will be hunting ten years from now and they will tease you that your face when he said it was astounding. What is it the Brits say? “Taking the piss?” Something about giving you a hard time. I’m sure that he wouldn’t have done that to someone he didn’t like. Sounds weird but guys are like that sometimes. And I’m not holding that against your hunt either. Just rest assured that it is such an absurd thing to say im sure he was joking.
Here is what you do: next hunt go up to him and say that you are so sorry that your gorgeous horse distracts the hounds, hope they can find scent. Make a joke out of it. You will bond, they will know you are a real player and can roll with it and go out and hunt!
