Is anyone Wearing Rust-Colored Breeches in the Hunter Classes
The rust and the redwood are not out of style. Tailored sells quite a bit of these colors. but it is a matter of personal taste. They are permitted in the show ring.
Well, I mean, to be fair the original thread was from 2014 and it IS more common/in style NOW than it was back then. A little unfair to expect posts from 2014 to anticipate and adjust to what might happen 2 years in the future

I wish I could find rust breeches that lean more to the Harry Hall end of the spectrum than the TS end.

I found a pair of seriously vintage Harry Halls on eBay a coupleyears ago for basically nothing, and I lurve them! The waist is a bit high (coming from a fan of “tall” breeches), but it hides a multitude of sins ;).

Proudly rocking the rust at a show:

I show in rust breeches and even in brown field boots. I love the way rust looks, even if I do stand out. I have some old TS Royal Hunters in rust that are my favorites.

Couldn’t see your picture. :frowning:

I bought a pair of old rust Harry Halls on ebay several years ago, and they were actually in good shape. I had to find a new home for them because they were really too big, but I’m always on the lookout.

I have a pair of Cusotm Riding Apparel breeches in rust, but they don’t fit me quite right in spite of alterations. They are beautiful, though. Am thinking of trying a pair of these:

Dewey- Victory Canter has those and has a coupon which makes them $72 with free shipping. I have two pairs of the Ovation Tayloreds and love them. The rust color is sitting in my shopping cart waiting for me to decide.

Fit on the Ovation Taylored vs. TS Trophy Hunter? Not as low a rise, I know, but through the thigh?

I think the fit is pretty similar. I own both and like both. Enjoying the sock bottom on the Ovations.

I am also interested in the fit. I have found that with my Custom Riding Apparel rust breeches, beautiful as they are, they are not curvy enough for me. The online salesperson told me they “fit like Tailored Sportsmans,” which did not help me as I have never had a pair of those.

I had a pair of Ovations once that weren’t a great fit for my figure, either, but they were a different model. Buying breeches is such a pain!

I have a pair to Custom Riding Apparel rust breeches and the fit it awful for the curvy/pear-shape. They are soooo tight in the thighs and then gigantic in the waist. Nothing like the 4 way stretch TS trophy hunters if you ask me…but perhaps like the 2 way stretch?

Actually, I don’t have a strong preference as long as things fit properly! I thought the fabric on the Custom Riding Apparels was really nice, and I liked the European leg seams. Also liked the fact that they had no euro seat. However, you are right: they were not made for the pear-shaped. Your description (tight in the leg, big in the waist) is right on. I had them professionally altered, but they are still not great.

Have never tried on a pair of trophy hunters. I might someday in a tack shop, but they are always really expensive.

Oooooh, I haven’t seen these before. I might just have to get a pair. Really like the look of them.

I have and like the CRA rust breeches, and yes, I showed in them in the Adults at a B show last year. No comment from anyone, and looked sharp on my chestnut. I’ll probably break them out for a fall show or two again this year

I had rust jods and my first pair of breeches were light grey. I still love rust.

#80s
SAME HERE, exactly! “Dove grey” was the name, I think, of my Devon-Aires!

I didn’t like rust as a kid. I’ve also owned a lot of chestnuts. I did rock some gray jods though while my sister wore rust Harry Halls.

RolyPolyPony, “Eastern MA” as a kid, too? I grew up on the South Shore. We may, in fact, be the same person. (-:

My Dad forced me to wear rust on my chestnut pony. He thought I would stand out more. I thought we just clashed!

Maybe this is my call to get back into showing.

there was a poster on here who I thought showed the hunters in rust breeches AND brown boots. It looked great. Hopefully they chime in!

FWIW, I love that Redwood color. Those and the black forest (hunter green) are on my list.
Mypaintwattie did, at A shows, and got compliments from several judges. And lot of tri-colors.
