Saddlebred x Percheron
If you look at the photo posted, he’s definitely about there I’m afraid. He’s still mostly himself so it’s going to be hard.
I’m sorry you are having to manage this with your horse. Making the decision to give a humane & informed euthanasia when their eyes are bright but the body is broken pulls at our hearts.
I know this is an older post in this thread, but it bears repeating over and over again. So, so true when we recognize deterioration in our pets and have the ability to prevent suffering or a prolonged downhill slide.
@FatCatFarm, you have my sympathy. Know you’re doing the right thing for your horse, for more reasons than just the financial aspect (which also can’t be ignored).
This.
I kept my dsld horse comfortable for six years and I’m glad I did.
However, I had to put him down after what was likely a long night down in his stall with colic and I’m not happy about that.
Sparing them that, if you can, is a kindness.
.
Agreed.
I let my beautiful golden boy slip away on Feb. 18, 2025. It was time as his fetlocks had gotten basically parallel to the ground, but definitely still The HARDEST thing I have ever done! Spent a beautiful morning with him feeding him yummy things and taking his picture.
(upload://qTKrhzu063c7t4FLsiZID5uNAFN.jpeg)So sorry. He looks like he was a lovely guy.
So very sorry. What a handsome boy. (hugs)
I’m sorry for the loss of your beautiful boy.
Thank you. He really was the sweetest horse. I miss him terribly.
Sending big hugs. I lost my heart horse to DSLD and it is such an ugly illness.

Sending you many (((((hugs))))) doing the right thing isn’t always the easy thing
They do leave such a huge hole in our hearts and lives when we have to say goodbye, don’t they? That’s the bargain though. In preventing their pain and suffering we create our own. But we do it because we love them that much.
He was so lovely and so lucky to have you.
I wanted to add that your boy was a handsome lad with a sweet face and a kind eye.
Hugs from Colorado. I’m so sorry. Hang in there.
What a sweet boy, so sorry
I’m so sorry. Many hugs and jingles to you. What a kind eye he had.
