is there any breed of dog that can hold it's own against wild pigs?

They do have a way to mass harvest them on public lands and land where they can get permission to do so. It doesn’t work in my area because we are too forested here. Basically they chase them with a helicopter and use an AR to shoot them.

Years ago, Pres. GW Bush (before he was President) started a program in Texas to harvest feral hogs, process the meat in USDA slaughterhouses, and use it to feed the homeless. I’m not sure if the program is still ongoing, but it is something that has at least been tried, and one that a lot of people were behind at the time.

This should be a public Facebook link, no need to have a Facebook account to watch it. This is a baby feral hog, just to show how aggressive they can be, even in the tiny versions.

You forgot that they are quite tasty. At least the ones Mr. Atlatl has hunted.

In December, a local fellow trapped over 50 in three weeks.

He made some good barbecue of the first ones, eventually everyone got tired of that.

There are way more pigs than people care to prepare, cook and eat.

Most just leave them there and next day there is nothing left.
Other hogs came by in the night and didn’t even left hair behind.

Here is some of the latest news on feral hog control:

Still no good solution out there, but they are working on it.

Aaaand the diseases they can carry;

you know, we’ve hunted lots of things to extinction. You’d think we could do that with these!

They breed so fast, and they don’t have any other enemies except humans. They are really hard to get rid of.

No it wouldn’t.

Omg! I hope she has changed her mind otherwise she sounds so cruel.

She is not cruel. She was just raised that dogs work on the farm and not in the house. Where she grew up, Dogs slept on the porch and guarded the property. She took very good care of her dog, she took her to the vet for annual exams and vaccinations, she was good to her. But it’s not MY way of thinking, I prefer to keep my dogs in the house with me.

I’m sorry but leaving your dog in possible harms way is cruel in my opinion but you define it as you wish.

The property is fenced. The hogs got in without her knowing. Not Cruel.

My only suggestion would be set up a HOT perimeter with Hi Tensile wire and a big charger outside the dog area.
