Issues with the new format

I clicked on settings and went to my in box. There were no new PMs.

I clicked on the teeny tiny arrow to the right of “Notifications:2”, and it said something about “helpful” and then strings of numbers.

After that , the “2” went away, and I could not get back to it to try to figure out what it meant.

It’s actually interesting reading all the things that people are having issues over. I’ve learned a few things. Probably nothing that will change my old habits though.

note to the Admins: If at any point today you get weary of complaints and critiques, just think… If you reverted back to one of the old tried and true formats that has previously been left behind (to the tune of just as much kicking and screaming) there would be complaints about THAT too :grief:

The “Post Reply” button at the bottom of the thread is not working for me (using Firefox). I’m writing this with the “quick reply” box at the bottom of the page.

I quite like the auto-save function, and the appreciate option!

I do wish you could make the font bigger in the posts. And, I liked the subtle elegance of the “unread threads” appearing in bold instead of angry red. I’ve only been on the forum for about 15 minutes since the new launch so I’m sure I’ll develop more likes/dislikes as the hours progress.

Add me to the list of those experiencing physical discomfort from the new colors/layout. I’ve been reading for a few minutes and I can already feel the beginnings of a migraine and that vertigo-esque crosseyed dizzy spell thing.

I can deal with the new navigation quirks, but getting a migraine every time I visit is going to drive me away in a hurry.

The font on Announcements on the home page is normal sized for me, but all of the other forums are super mini-sized…

As a premium member, when I try and include photos in my posts like it used to be, the photos now just show up as a text link and they aren’t working The only reason I maintain a premium membership is so I can include photos, along with the little thumbnails, right in my posts.

As someone with great eyesight, I’m also finding the small font and red fonts incredibly hard to read and have already started getting a headache just 5 minutes into the site.

LOVE the like/hate buttons.

Just as an FYI, the top menu with Settings, FAQ, etc. is way off to the right on my computer.

Dislike the red as well. First thing I noticed when logging on this morning.

Hate the thumbs. I don’t “do” Facebook and don’t appreciate its influence at all.

Impressed, however, that the update went on as planned last night and the forums were up and running this morning as promised. Even with all the Sandy disruptions!

The Chronicle Forums link used to take you to a listing of all forums, and the Forum link took you just to those in the “Discussion Forums” section. Now if you right click the “Chronicle Forums” link to open in a new tab you get a blank page (aka, it doesn’t work) and the “Forum” link takes you to what used to be Chronicle Forums. Doesn’t really bother me one way or another, but if it’s a bug I thought you’d want to know.

I just found the back button not working due to some sort of ad or something. It had about 50 repetitions of the url:
http://view.atdmt.com/AVE/iview/3703526
(Which doesn’t work)

A weird thing I ran into. Viewing my profile, I clicked the “view latest posts” (or whatever it says that resembles this) and it shows my post above from today, then all these others from 2007 and prior. Nothing in between? Bizarre.

I am having the same issues when i tried to include pictures in my post. Hope they can get that fixed.

All pages loading slowly and jerkily. Just feels like there’s something wrong in the back end, as Belg noted.

On edit: Also, in Firefox, the columns are cut off on the right in the forum view.

NO preview of post when you hover over title (someone told me to hover over the envelope now - OK, that’ll work!) ACTUALLY, now I can see the preview hovering over the topic, as I could previously

PLUS back arrow doesn’t work (peculiar to this site, as others are all fine) AND NOW they work. gremlins…

Thanks for providing these forums - they’re great fun, educational, and good for keeping up with folks!

Icons for replied-to post should be the same size as icons for an unread post visually. The double-sized icons kinda look like toys-r-us-ish; I think it overly distracting; simple resize to the other pixel count shouldn’t be too difficult.

I’d also pop an extra pixel or two into the menu-bar seperators. It’s “barely” visible and my eyes are pretty good.
… others may not see it at all.

1. Everything seems squashed
2. I find it VERY hard to read the page numbers when you are on any particular forum’s homepage. They are in red for me…is there a way to change that?
3. I REALLY hate the huge notepad thing that is next to each topic that tells you if you’ve posted in it or not. It used to be really small but now takes up A LOT of room.

I think they eye strain may be the grey level in the default. It’s kind of whitewashed…

Ditto…Using Firefox here and the ads take up about 1/3 of my screen on the right hand side.

I seem to have lost the “Navigation” dropdown…was looking to go to another forum.

I appreciate this forum a lot and know I’ll get used to the changes and appreciate many of them. One wish is to not have to use the navigation drop-down menu every time you want to move to a new thread in the same forum. It used to be that the forum you were in would be at the top of the menu and you just hit “go.” Now you have to search through all the forums in the menu and select it.
