please tell me there is a way to not have to see the OT day and the menagerie posts…
please.
I am hoping so too!
I agree with the posters who say it seems slower.

I actually don’t mind the red so much - but I am positive I will when I have a low-grade sinus headache going. But I find it odd, it wasn’t showing this morning when I posted about the inability to tell read apart from unread posts, so something changed. I was on firefox with ad blocker then, so I’m wondering if I go check at home the red will still not be there… I’m on IE at work and not allowed to add ad blocker here.
Add me to the list of people who are having issues with ads in the right column covering text when using an iPhone.
Another issue, after further browsing, is that the signature box is way too big- there’s a thumb’s width of empty white space between the last line of the signature and the toolbar at the bottom (with the dreadful thumbs up/down button. By the way, re. notifications- I do not give two hoots who liked or disliked my post and I want to have an option to turn the things off.)
I would also like to see the “flag post” button enlarged and moved to the upper corner of each post, where it used to be. If I’m flagging “Watch Argo for free online!” I don’t want to have to go find the alert button. I know I’m reporting it, I know why, and I don’t need to read any further to do it.
I also don’t much care for not being able to tab from the Quick Reply text input to the Post Quick Reply button as I used to.
Another issue I am having is that on the master forum list page, at times the forum names appear in a serif font and at others in sans-serif. I much prefer the latter for readability. I am using Chrome and I understand that one of that browser’s lovely recent changes to default text settings may be responsible for the problem. If it is not just me… sans-serif is better!

Found it…
WHERE?
Oh and I wanted to add it’s REALLY difficult to see how many posts have already be posted in a topic before you open it. I also feel that the topics are really close together and makes things hard to read. And to reiterate I just HATE the huge notepad thing saying which topics have new posts. Everything is quite hard to read, especially where it has the number of pages. There are boxes that are so close to the background color and the number font is very light, so I found it hard to see unless I tilted my computer screen.
Blue reply tab at the bottom doesn’t work, have to use the reply under the last post.
The “started by” before the name of who starts a new thread seems superfluous and it makes finding who did start it harder than quickly scanning thru names.
The big tabs in the front of threads or posts, that one looks like a grey envelope, seem very big and blocky and out of proportion, could be more discrete.
I am missing my bigger red dot by my name, that helped me find where I posted last, so I don’t have to reread thru the whole thread to find where I left off.
Those thumbs up and down go on to notify you about them and who cares, that seems a waste of time and clutters the PM tab, I think, not sure if that number is a PM or just one more thumbing.
The box that encloses the quotes is different and maybe better, the font is ok, I can see and read it fine.
Can’t read hardly on my IPhone, the right hand ads cover part of the posts.
Hardly remember what the old one looked like, all will get used to this soon enough.
Sure don’t like the pop-ups, at the bottom, those are way past annoying.
Hope you Moderators get to rest a bit after all the glitches are fixed.
I have formatting issues similar to what Janet already reported. It’s very weird.
Am quite amused by the suggested list of similar topics to this one. Anyone care to get back into the loss of the traditional 3-Day format?
I guess I will wait to see if everything gets straightened out and be grateful there are no avatars or pictures associated with each post, taking up massive screen real estate and bandwidth and making this look like a forum frequented by ten year olds! (OK, if they are coming, don’t tell me. I’d rather live awhile longer in blissful ignorance.)
The pop-up ads seem to be gone for me, whereas they were almost constant on my work PC. (I have adblock at home, I may put COTH back on the exceptions now if they’re really gone.)
I HATE the red. If you want to go with the existing color scheme, perhaps hunter green?
The font is way too tiny. I’m young and have good eyesight, and I’m getting eyestrain trying to read a few threads.
Overall, though, I think a lot of the upgrades seem good. Especially the new smilies :tickled_pink:
I hate the colors, especially the red, orange and green. Also hate the thumbs. Also hate the changes made to Profiles. If I wanted a Facebook page, I’d still be on Facebook. I’ve always considered myself a pretty open person, but Facebook really opened my eyes to how important privacy is to me after all.
Also-- regarding the thumbs: when I compose a post, I want it to be part of a discussion, not a popularity contest. IMO the thumbs are a perverting distraction.
There is hardly any contrast between the letters and the white background. Something about the font being used versus the background is very hard on the eyes. Don’t like it, doesn’t make me want to stay on the site and read.
The worst, non-aesthetic issue is that this new format/advertising scheme is constantly hanging or locking my computer. I do not have this problem on any other web pages or forums. I cannot effectively navigate around this forum without much frustration waiting for pages to load/ads to pop-up etc.
Also, I have not figured out how to use the new search function so that the results begin with the latest posts. So far, all my attempts/selections have resulted in search results beginning many years ago and I have to scroll (slowly, see above) to the end.
This whole site, as it exists now, is really almost too frustrating to continue using. I don’t mind ads or format changes, but when it interferes with the speed and effectiveness of use, it becomes pointless to contantly battle hanging page loading and having to close endless pop-up ads…it is not worth it.
On the settings page, all the text and icons are overlapping for me in Safari 6. It is almost readable but will need attention.
The red is awful! I can barely tell the threads apart!
I must be way off…is everything lumped together in one category now? I can’t find , for example, Dressage, HJ. or Eventing! Help!!
The POST REPLY button doesn’t work.
The font is WAY too small. I can’t see spending nice relaxing (or not! :)) evenings reading COTH posts when it strains my eyes to do so.
And there I was looking forward to the Thanksgiving Invasion forum … (sigh)
What red?

Ditto. Much harder to read these days.
And I think somebody already mentioned that it’s more time-consuming now that there is no “go” button next to the name of the forum you’re already in.
I have not yet come across the privacy issues people are talking about, but that will probably bother me. A lot.
I think we’ve all established the red is terrible, so I don’t need to say anything about that.
The “appreciate” thing is a bit lame. If you really want to have a like button, just having the thumbs up/down is probably sufficient over having “Did you appreciate this post?” Also, once you click on one of the thumbs you can’t change your “appreciation” for said post - that’s an issue for accidental clicks, etc.
Having tried to use this new format I can now say I HATE it!
Can’t POST REPLY. Have to use the Quick Reply format which allows for no formatting, no smilies(!).
Can’t find any User Whatever-It-Was link to check PMs. Saw something NOTIFICATIONS link and tried to click on it, finally after 3-4 attempts some little pop-up message popped-up and I clicked on it and it took me to some page with some long numerical code and the info that some post had been liked or whatever. Didn’t say if it was my post or someone else’s.
This font is TOO SMALL!!!
Like another COTHer who posted, I don’t like change but usually get used to it, but I don’t know about this. If I can’t easily read the posts, can’t check for PMs, where’s the fun? More importantly, where’s the helpful info, feedback, give-and-take that makes COTH great?
And we still can’t see all the smilies in one place–minor annoyance, but just one more irritant.
My eyes are aching already from the strain of trying to read this.
“Views” definitely doesn’t work. There is one more “view” than there is “post.” So it’s not recording the actual number of times a thread gets viewed.
I think it was wonky before the change. Maybe not in exactly the same way, but it definitely did not record every view.
Yes! Some of us have aging eyeballs, remember!? Not all of us are 'tweens and twentysomethings and this is just horrible. Please, bring back the old appearance! Thank you.
ETA I had thought I was quoting something. I am referring to and agreeing with all of the font too small comments. I lliked CoTH just fine the way it was. Whoever dreamed up this change was sadly misguided. Please offer an option for ‘traditional format’ choice or ‘new format’ choice so that users can choose. I think you will find an overwhelming majority will want to go back to the previous format!
