The developers said that the last round of fixes from the development site didn’t transfer to the live site for some reason, so our apologies for that.
We’ll be fixing the red, the goofy post reply button at the bottom, the tiny font on the main page, the inclusion of OT and Menagerie posts in Today’s Posts, the lack of thumbnails for Premium member photo uploads and more…still getting organized, but wanted to check in.
The search is definitely wonky, so we’ll work on that (and will possibly be implementing a new system down the road a bit, depending on how this one operates in comparison to our old one, which wasn’t that great to begin with!) and I’m checking to see if we can hopefully import individuals posting histories from the old site so that you can pull up all old posts via a user’s profile page, like you could before. That’s one of my often used tools too!
I also wanted to address someone’s question earlier about whether this is “it” in terms of new features, etc. NO. Priority number one was the software upgrade and getting the site working correctly with the new software and looking familiar for users. We wanted to implement a few new goodies while we were at it so that folks saw some reason for all the trouble and disruption, but we’re going to be looking into further additions after we get things going smoothly and evaluate what we have already.
The next major step is to implement a universal log-in system across the whole site, so you no longer have to have separate accounts for the forums, the main site and the classifieds.
After that’s up and running, so we can manage our user bases more effectively in terms of subscriptions, credits for the classisfieds site, etc., we’re going to work on new features for Premium members and probably some more for the main site too.
Some of the new things you’re seeing, like the new profile set-up, are defaults for the software, and we wanted to see how they operated in real life, get used to them and let you try them before we figured out what to keep and what to change. Once we get through some of the actual glitches, etc., we can focus more on some of those optional settings.
For those with privacy concerns, please be advised that on the new site, as on the old one, you can activate an “Invisible” option for your account, so that other users can’t see what threads you’re viewing, and apparently now what profiles you’ve looked at, etc. To do that, click on “Settings” from the left side of the blue bar at the top of the page (that’s your new User CP). Click “General Settings” then select “Invisible Mode On.”
I also want to reassure you that any change to a site comes with glitches, and we’re just starting the process of getting things straightened out. You’re not going to be stuck with ugly red font and buttons that don’t work. I don’t foresee any big changes in terms of layout – we’ve kept the same basic scheme from the old site in terms of the ad bar on the right, etc. and while we know some folks don’t like it, all this maintenance don’t come cheap.
I’ll be checking back in later.
Thanks!
