It only took nearly 27 years..but I bought my first horse - Update pst 41

I am so excited I can barely stand it. I have been looking at horse ads and videos a couple of years now; and waiting until we got to the financial point of being able to afford a horse. We got there this past spring and the only hurdle I had to pass was convincing my husband we could handle it.

He agreed this past Sunday. I went to try a mare at a farm on Thursday, met and fell in love with a gelding at the same farm, had him vetted Friday and brought him home!

The boy needs groceries and lots of TLC, but he’s going to be cute cute cute. I will get better pictures later today after I bath him and trim his mane.

His name is Good Lil Train, barn name Train.

Congrats!! I love how loud he is!

Nice breeding for a good mind, he should be a good buddy for you.

Hope you enjoy him for many years to come.

He is a cutie!
Enjoy

I got you beat.
I was 39 when I got my first horse (after 20+ years of schoolies & 1/2 boards).

I almost named him Refi, because that’s where his purchase price came from.
No, I did not mortgage the house to buy a horse, but part of the refi $$ was earmarked

Bluey, he has SUCH a good mind. The trainer I purchased him from told me the previous trainer he was with was very rough with him and there’s moments where he kind of folds up in himself and is like “Please don’t hit me”, but he really wants to be in your pocket and in the middle of whatever you’re doing.

Despite having a rough start he is very trusting and is already looking to me when he’s unsure about something.

BIG CONGRATS!!!:yes::slight_smile:

Good for you, such horses need a very patient and kind person and will be happy campers.
Those are the horses you can spoil a little bit.
They won’t take advantage of you, that is what I like about that breeding.
We raised some of those, not the Zippos, but the others and we could sell them to anyone knowing they would be safe with them.
We also didn’t sell them to anyone that was going to be uncaring, just needed a horse to get the job done and then left alone.
Not the right breeding for that.
Those horses thrive on attention and doing things with you.

Glad that you will be that kind of horse owner for him.
Too bad he had someone abusing his good, kind disposition and was rough with him.
I know some horses that would not have taken that, but fought back.

It is so nice to have a horse that is your friend, especially for your first very own horse.

I rode when I was younger, and after a 30+ year break I never dreamed that I would start riding again, let alone get my very own horse. I’m 48, I’ve had Cody for 4 years and I still get emotional about having him.

Congratulations and have fun!

Congratulations! He’s beautiful. I love the brand new fly mask and the clean fluffy shavings… …you’re not doting on him at all, are you? He’s a lucky boy to have a good home, and you are lucky to have him!

I chopped off his mane today, working on making it look pretty, but it’s a work in progress. He also got a bath.

Wonderful, worth waiting for and he is one lucky horse! Enjoy!

OMG, he is so cute! And I love the name Train!

Awesome for you and your new friend!

Congratulations! Enjoy yourselves!

The quality isn’t great, and he really thought running around the arena when there was GRASS to eat was kinda stupid, but here’s a video of him moving around a bit.
