It only took nearly 27 years..but I bought my first horse - Update pst 41

Congrats! He is a good looking horse. I hope you have lots of fun with him.

I thought I would update about my little pony.

We were doing really well together for about a month and a half, and then at the beginning of August things started unraveling. He set back in the cross ties twice, breaking his halter one time and the second time it didn’t break (scared me half to death), then he just started having lots of baby moments that ended in me coming off of him.

It was in the moments after I landed on the ground and he was afraid to come near me because he seemed convince I was going to just beat the hell out of him that I decided we needed help. I gave him the rest of August off to just kind of decompress and be a horse. Lots of turnout and some handwalking only. September 1st he went into full training with a guy who’s specialty is young horses and western pleasure.

The trainer is someone I am familiar with and have watched ride many horses so I was (and sill am) confidant he is the best choice for my pony. After moving to the new barn and settling into a routine of working daily (something I couldn’t do because of my own job) he quickly gained weight and is looking phenomenal. The beginning of the year will mark 120 days and he has improved by leaps and bounds. He, is gaining muscle, learning how to control his body and his personality has come out so much more. He is very opinionated about things, especially when I’m around (not in a ‘I’m trying to get away with something’ sort of way, but in a “Your here!! Come get me!!” sort of way). I need to take a video of the dance he does on the hot walker when I get there - he gets so excited. He also got a name change - it’s now Harley.

It is wonderful that you went to a professional, that is the best money spent on a young horse, will pay for the rest of his life.

While starting young horses can be done by many, a professional will do it quicker and better and with the least stress for the horse.

Sounds like that is a very good trainer, to bring out the personality in him like that, where he loves to work and see his people.

He looks good in that first picture, good for you!

Same for me.

I am so glad that things are working out with the trainer.

Bumps in the road aren’t fun but congrats on being able to send him to a pro who is showing you steady results. Your gelding is very handsome!!

He is GORGEOUS! Congratulations on working through the hard times with him! It is great when you can invest in a partnership!
