itchy skin, red ears, and sebaceous cysts

This video shows how I was taught to do it

I don’t think they ENJOY it much but I also think if you take small clumps it’s not too unpleasant. They feel MUCH BETTER afterwards and at least my dog had her crust ear issues/ear infections go away entirely.

My cockapoo suffered terrible itching and seborrheic dermatitis. Tried apoquel after many rounds of pred.
Turned out to be demodex. after one dose of Bravecto and bathing with anti-acne type shampoos he is almost a normal dog.

BTW I believe prednisone is the WRONG thing to give if a dog is suffering from demodex mites.

We saw our regular vet this morning. He said to do Apoquel dose to twice a day for two weeks, then back down to once a day (what she is currently on). Also use itch relief shampoo at least once a week. He gave her a dose of antibiotics to clear up/prevent more infection she has from itching one of the cysts open. Going to switch her to a fish based food, since the extra omega’s and fish oils cant hurt! Fingers crossed the increased dose of Apoquel for two weeks will give everything a boost.

Going through this except for the cysts with one of my dogs. We tried prednisone and apoquel and a CADI shot. Nothing really relieves the licking and itching, so I’ve put him on an anti-yeast diet and it seems to be working. Not so much licking of the toes and his skin is a bit better. We’ll keep this up for a couple of months and I’m going to try Natural Balance LID Legume and Duck meal for him. No grains, no potatoes so nothing for the yeast to feed on. He also gets bathed with a Tea Tree oil shampoo, no oatmeal based stuff.

Robin – very interesting about the no yeast diet! It makes total sense!!! I am in the process of switching Bailey from blue buffalo wilderness red meat, to natural balance salmon and sweet potato. So far she is doing better, also could just be my imagination though… She has had the double dose of Apoquel and antibiotics, along with mixing the food to transition it. Fingers crossed!

Does anyone have any tips for giving Bailey a bath and letting the shampoo sit for 5 minutes (per the directions on the bottle)? She usually is OK with getting baths, but not sure how well the whole waiting with shampoo will go.

Can you bath her in the show and just hold her in there for as long as you need? That’s how I would handle it.
