My old Stubben Seigfried is like a couch Sadly it doesn’t fit my mare, but it is so comfortable I’m holding on to it in case there is a next horse… Although I haven’t foxhunted (yet!!), I did use it in multiple long rides, 2-3 hours, like parades, hunter paces and trails and never had a sore butt. My current saddle is an old Pessoa which isn’t as cushy, but I use a fleece seat saver for long rides and it has worked well. Both are well under $1000 used. I’ve been experimenting with stirrups for knee pain control recently, and there is a thread you may want to check out in the Eventing forum.
If you are patient, there are some very good deals out there on used saddles. I am in the process of buying one that retailed for $4200 – it’s in very good condition and is selling for $650. I would be leery of the Toulouse. I know some people who love them and some who have been disappointed. I suspect that if you keep looking you will be able to buy a very nice saddle for less than $1K and get better value for your $$.

There’s a lovely Albion Kontrol for sale on Ebay at the moment. It is not mine. The owner says she used it for fox hunting. It has a very wither friendly design. The balance is excellent - so easy to two point. The Ultima leather wears like iron and it has enough cush and support. Love mine.[/QUOTE]
I have an older Albion Kontrol jumping saddle, probably 1999-2000, could be older. It fits me perfectly. I’m having a saddle fitter out to check my new horse who has the most extreme withers I’ve ever seen. Anyway, I dearly love this saddle and would highly recommend it if you look at the Albions. My husband has a newer model of the Kontrol, in an all-purpose, which is a bit too AP for me but he likes the deeper seat and the buffalo leather is sturdy compared to my calf leather.
I have noticed the Albion’s to be able to fit a wide variation in back sizes and a lot of the saddles also have an adjustable tree, although it has to be done by an Albion saddler.
