Jingle request.... and any experience with foals with vision loss?

Nothing but my very very best thoughts for your ADORABLE little one. Please keep us updated on his recovery…you know we do care.

Thinking about you today and sending warmest wishes

Contact Rachel Erlich at Greengate Stud. She has a mare now that just was reserve in the regional championships that lost an eye as a foal. She can tell you all about what she did and how they trained it. Super success story there.

Kathy

Sending Tuesday jingles.

Any news on your little one? Sending more jingles for his continued recovery.

Gorgeous little boy. He’s very, very lucky to have you. Sending only good thoughts and jingling like a mad woman.

Don’t feel bad about feel, we can’t keep our horses in padded rooms. Even if we could they’d probably find ways to hurt themselves. A few years ago I heard a very sad story about a horse who was turned out during the night when a thunderstorm started to blow in. The owner went out to put the horses in but in the minutes it took him to get the gate on of the horses had started running and broken his neck running into another horse. The horse was in the safest fence money could buy with supervision. Even in the best situations horses will find ways to hurt themselves.

I had a pony with one eye and it didn’t bother him in the slightest. I’ve also spent time with some very happy blind horses. My experience has been that if they cope with the initial transition they should be OK.

Jingles for your beautiful boy.

Thank you so much everyone! I think the jingles are working

The culture results came back on Monday, and the infection in the left eye was resistant to one of the antibiotics we were prescribed, so we changed that up. There has been NO drainage at ALL from the right eye, I’m amazed. His comfort level seems very good. We are slowly beginning to back off on the Banamine. Tonight I took his eye saver off to let him see a little out of the left eye, and man was he feisty!! He started running laps around the 12 x 24 stall he and his dam are in. I took them for a walk (well, the mare and I walked). He ran, played, bucked, “talked” to the other horses through the fence. He didn’t run into anything or fall on the uneven ground. It was very encouraging! Here are some (not so great) photos I took on my phone tonight:

What a superb report. Jingling on for your little beauty.

Looks like he’s doing great!! Thank goodness he has him mom w/him…I’m sure that is making a big difference in his attitude. MORE JINGLES coming his way!!!

I was already feeling horrible for your poor little guy and when I saw his FB pics I actually gasped out loud and got a tear in my eye. Such a beautiful baby.

I’m so sorry he (and you!) have to go through this. But it sounds like he is doing well, which is wonderful news. Tons and tons of jingles!

He’ll be the most stunning pasture pet ever

Whoa whoa whoa, no need for pasture pet status. Hopefully he will grow up to be a nice performance horse, like my half-blind guy
