Sorry to hear of CL’s return to the ICU. Jingles that the docs find a way to knock out her infection and get her back on track to rehab and return to her kitties.
I scratched Tina under her chin today, not just on top of her head at her ears.
Poor Rascal. She is trying SO hard to communicate. It makes my head hurt the way she looks at me.
I haven’t seen a couple of the more independent ones in over a week now. I’m starting to wonder if some of the more self-sufficient (there are a few CL herself only saw 2-3 times a week when they came in for a brief bite and ear scratch) have given up on this place and moved along. I counted 9 cats at new-food-pouring this morning, and three of the missing today I saw yesterday, so I have 12 confirmed around regularly, but there are still a few MIA. On the other hand, maybe they are just “on hold.” Rascal, for instance, stalked out in disgust at the arrival of the kittens back at the beginning of the summer, and NOBODY saw her for a month. Nobody. Period. CL was very worried and watching for her. Then one day, she sauntered back in, sleek and healthy, as if nothing ever happened.
Will go in early tomorrow night for rehearsal to visit first and adjust to fit ICU hours, and I’ll get a better reading on how CL is doing then.
Oh no! Sorry about the second last update…
My Grandma had some semi feral cats she fed, and two in her house. While we were cleaning out the house, we didn’t see them until there were less items in the house, but I did see one in the basement rafters one time. One of the cats didn’t come around, but the other lives in my parents home, is a HUGE Mommas boy after 3 months, and they love him.
Good luck OP, and CL!
Sending jingles from Ky for Cat Lady and the kittehs. Big big jingles.
I am a bit north of you, but if I can be of some help, IM me. and jingles for all.
Jingles continuing for Cat Lady.
I shuffled my work schedule and went in early enough tonight to the city to catch the late afternoon ICU visiting window before I went on to rehearsal.
CL not doing well at all. Keep the prayers and jingles up. I will see her again Wednesday night before the Wednesday night rehearsal.
Oh my! Jingling as hard as I can!
I know we can’t fundraise, and we can PM, but given current circumstances, do you have access to funds- litter, food for kitties? Just trying to help from afar…
Small misadventure with the cats this morning. I arrived for the feline shift and greeted those around, which was not all of them. Nothing unusual about that. But just after I had topped off the food dishes on their eating table, a cat started howling with that “trapped cat” howl. I was looking around and calling kitty kitty, not much assisted in the search by the others. (Kind of like calling, “Mom!” in a store. You have several respondents to choose from.) It seemed to be coming from the back door, so I unbolted and opened the back door. Two cats there waiting to come in who did not choose to walk around the house to the front, but no trapped cat. Could hear the cat definitely there, though. Very loud. I called and crouched and opened back porch storage drawers and stuff. No cat. Finally realized it sounded UNDER the house.
So I went in to look around again and finally spotted the heat vent in the floor that had been knocked off. That heat vent is clear under a side table. Looked too small for a cat to fit down, but it was an open channel, so I called again. Cat answered but not at immediate distance, not right in the vent. I went around and called down a few more vents. The cat was clearly under the house but distant.
So I went outside and around to the exterior door to the crawl space. Opened it and called (and shooed away two volunteers for entrapment). Finally, here came Cotton from the far side of the house, all cobwebby but none the worse for wear. He hopped out, and I sealed things up again, then went back in to reclose the open heat vent. Apparently, he fell down it - or more likely jumped - got lost, and found his way out through the furnace, arriving in the crawlspace. It’s a very old house, doesn’t surprise me that it has a few chinks in the heating ducts.
Whew! I hate hearing a trapped cat and not being able to find it.
The financial situation with all this is a little complicated. The cats are stocked, but the situation is getting progressively harder. PM me if you want more details.
I will again go to the city early and visit CL tonight.
Poor Cotton!! I have a HUGE heavy grate that’s screwed down, and then I put a screen under it…Not that it would catch a cat, but it catches cat TOYS!!!
Sent PM
This is making me so very sad. I’m jingling for CL, and thank you DT for being so amazing and helping these cats.
I sent you a PM.
Rest in peace, Cat Lady.
Oh no! I’m so sorry! That’s awful. I loved reading about her - what an interesting and wonderful person. She will be very missed.
OP, you took great care of her and really cared about her and her cats. I’m so sorry. ((((Hugs)))))
Well that sucks!
I am very sorry for your loss, and the kitty’s loss. I not sure if there is anything that I can do to help-as I live 500+ miles away, however please let us know!
Oh no! I’m so very sorry.
Aww no . So sorry to hear this. Massive hugs to you and all of the kitties.
P.
She died late this afternoon, just before I got there. The nurse said she woke up for a few minutes today, and the nurse told her I was there last night.
I will probably start importing cats to my farm by the end of the week to try to shut off the mileage/hours drain of that daily trip while I work on placing some. The lost mileage income and hours for her shift, while still putting in the drive out to her place and the time for visits with the cats, has become increasingly harder over this month to keep up. I have also reached out to a few people locally who had expressed interest.
I will get pictures tomorrow of those available, but we have up for offer:
Cotton and Poly (Polyester), yellow. Cotton is slightly lighter, but they are close enough that you look twice unless they are together to distinguish which you have. Roughly 8 months old.
Panther and Bagheera. Jet black. These are brothers to my Pharaoh. Roughly 7 months old.
Satin - Silky smooth tiger stripe. Littermate to the blacks but larger than them.
Elvis - Gray and white patches.
Lucy - Orange with white markings.
Goldie - Golden yellow with white markings. Richer gold than Cotton and Poly. Very plush.
Mini Me - Tabby with orange hints.
Stripes and Underdog - Both torties with a white tail tip. Mother/daughter and very similar looking.
Baby Cat - Gorgeous, IMHO best-looking cat on the place. Soft tortiseshell with white boots and bib.
Rascal - Swirled tortie, looks like a Snickers bar in a blender. I am keeping Rascal.
Tina - Undersized, scrunched face, tabby with boots and bib. I am going to try to keep Tina since she’s warming up to me lately. I might have to have her PTS. This cat is special in a short-bus sense. Easily the least likely to adjust well. I won’t send her anywhere; if she can’t live with me, that’s it.
Mr. Man - Big striped fella. Haven’t seen him in a while.
Blackie - Big black fella. Ditto.
I had told her I could take four. I’ll see how things work out. Will do my best for all of them, of course, but it’s a lot of cats.
dressagetraks, sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. You are good person to be looking after all her kitties.
I’m so sorry … so many COTHers were pulling for her.
Glad to hear you will keep Rascal yourself … maybe she’ll finally find answers to her questions.
