We have a boarder that has known him since he was born
Odie is too cute!! With that charming expression I feel certain he is healing wonderfully!
Bad update but not that the kind you might think.
BO emailed me today and said she is kicking Odie out next week. WTF? I am so angry/betrayed/unhappy. I’ve boarded with her since 2007, and DH boards two horses with her. She says she has to kick him out for a “long term full board” person coming in on the 12th and she hopes I understand. I would think that my equine family counts as long term, plus I’m only paying $100 less for Odie, who I supply hay, bedding, etc for. He STILL has a cast on, can’t go outside, even if the cast is removed right now he would still be on restricted stall rest, but she is offering her paddock with no shelter.
I am just…without words.
No. I don’t understand BO, I don’t.
ETA: this is NOT where I board my two horses, though at point DH and I nearly filled her barn. I am just… soundless shrugging
That’s horrible. Can she really kick him out for no reason and with so little notice to boot? That’s a crappy thing to do and she can’t be making much money over what you’re paying and providing hay & shavings. Doesn’t make sense.
She can because I called her in tears asking to use one of her open stalls and she said yes, so no contract for HIM. But uhhh… DH has two horses there on contract. We’ve been GREAT, before the 1st paying boarders since 2007, cleaning up after ourselves, and helping out, recommending her facility to others, etc. Here is DH fixing their fence after one of his girls tore it down, a couple days after his recent wrist surgery. He’s fixed their fence, their water spigot, arena gates, just little stuff, and I get a week and a half to find a stall, this time of year.
She offered her paddock with no shelter as consolation. Yes. I’m more than $2k into saving my donkey’s life, he still has a cast on, even if it’s removed this week I 100 percent guarantee vet will say he needs to continue stall rest or risk reinjury or tendon injury, but yes absolutely, that’s a great alternative.
Hope it all works out for you & your little buddy, my thoughts for your barn owner are not so nice.
some people are very short sighted… very… does she realize she risks losing two horses, free help, great recommendations, etc. very greedy and short sighted indeed.
I hope you find a solution quickly. Ugh…
I hope your hubby stands by you on this and gives her a piece of his mind and takes his tools with him.
I forwarded him the email she sent me, he’s is not happy. He said we will figure it out after Odie’s appointment this week. I have my trainer on the hunt for a stall as well, just in case.
Are all your horses pasture boarded? or can you put Odie in one of their stalls?
Hopefully your vet or some friends will have some leads on a stall.
While I can understand your BO’s perspective, it’s a shame that notice was not at least 30 days.
He’s so little, perhaps you could just bring home for a bit…or maybe not. His BO
sucks…how could anyone throw that face out in the cold in mid-December.
Cheesh! Good luck!
Worst case scenario, send me a PM. he can use my empty stall here in Silvana, just west of Arlington. I know it’s a ways from you, but assuming he’s relatively low effort, we can work something out.
Mini Mo and JD would get a kick out of him, and on nice days I could leave the top half of the outer Dutch door open all day so JD could socialize with him (Mo’s too short).
Also, I know a few people with private barns on the island. Which end are you on?
North.
DH’s two have stalls, and he said he can always lock the two year old out of her stall and let Odie have it, but that we definitely won’t be paying for him in that scenario. Of course that means in the worse weather, his filly will be without shelter. Granted she lived without shelter the first two years, and has a sheet, but dang.
Yeah, I’m sorta bummed. DH says he understands where she is coming from, but I’m of the mindset as FalseImpression: 11 days to find him a place, just saying GTFO when he’s on serious stall rest, could cost her two empty spots in exchange for a month or two more of reduced rate.
Well, that just really stinks. That’s about all that can be said about it.
I’m glad to see that you can probably work something out with your DH’s filly’s stall, but still the possible prospect of having to find another place and move him at this point is just rotten.
Totally sucks. So sorry. Wish I could help.

So sorry you are going through this. My fuse as of late is short and I’d be hard pressed not to ask for a sit down conversation between yourself , BO and your husband and politely explain that you’ll be looking for new services for ALL of your horses. Kicking out an injured animal in lieu of a new boarder on short notice vs coming to you looking for ways to make it work for Odie’s best interest would be enough for me to hit the road.

I’m basically with Lynnwood - not coming to you and DH first to say, ‘here’s the situation, how can we all make this work?’ is just too deep into not using one’s brain to start with the obvious. Unless she’s irritated at something about the arrangement and using this as an ‘excuse’, it’s a pretty disconcerting brain short. That said, I don’t know how many good boarding options there are on Whidbey Island so don’t burn the bridge too fast if you don’t have to. At any rate, trailering isn’t a good idea for Odie right now and neither is ticking off the BO of the place he has to stay at until he can move. Can you talk to her about options and see if she’s willing to work on it - esp. if she shows signs of realizing ‘I just pulled a real boner and I wish I hadn’t’?
Yeah, I dunno. She texted me a week or two ago asking how much longer I thought I needed the stall because after having three empty spots since March she had three people contact her about boarding. I told her I wouldn’t know until this appointment… :-(. That’s hardly “notice.”
If there was comparable available boarding, I know what I’d be thinking…but there isn’t.
So very, very sorry - that sucks. Don’t know how anyone with a heart could do that! I wish I was closer because I would arrange things at my place so he could have a stall. Gonna sound strange but do you have a garage that you could put a stall in? Panels, rubber mats and shavings.
I would definitely be looking to move ALL my animals from that place.
I live in town, and we have a muni code for no farm animals… And as the resident cop on the block, would be bad ju-ju for me to, yanno, not follow the rules .
I’ve calmed down, esp since it looks like DH is fine with Twitch getting evicted from her stall. However he went to meet his farrier this morning and told BO’s DH that “my wife is pissed at your wife,” and now she wants to talk to me on the phone. Facepalm. I woke up this afternoon and asked my DH what happened to “us” and why did I get thrown under the bus. He had a bit of a shocked/confused face, because honestly my DH thinks about two seconds into the future most of the time unless it’s directly related to food and the procuring thereof.
So since he’s off to Everett to see the surgeon regarding the fact that he has a numb finger… and his new truck is bluetooth equipped… I told him he gets to call her because HE broke it, HE fixes it. I didn’t want to talk to her until I was off work.
You could mention that Odie has quite an internet following and his fan base will be outraged! Lol.
So sorry - hope there is a good resolution and an even better Vet check this week.
Plus, isn’t a round of photo updates due for us Odie fans?
