John Deere Gator vs. Kawasaki mule?
So if you’re not reading them, her posts are wasted??
I don’t think that is what she meant. I think she was trying to say that she values the poster’s opinions but finds the multicolored posts distracting to the point that she often does not read them. She acknowledges the fact that it might just be her problem, but that in the event that others are similarly distracted, the poster’s thoughts may be read by less people as a result of the rainbow colors.

I, too, find multicolored/multifont posts, or those in all or alternating caps, or lots of bolding, to be very distracting, and I usually just skip them. So it’s not just her. Maybe it is just the two of us.

Back to the original topic and sorry to go off topic. I am following this thread with interest as well, as we are moving to a new farm in a couple months and will need to buy an ATV or UTV.

You know, I like my Gator very much, it is very, very handy, has never not started, even when we were -7F last winter.
I would have found more convenient a bench seat, but they tell me the bucket seats are really much easier on your body.

Mine came as a package with a winch, the electric bed and a snow blade.
That snow blade is very much useless, not enough power behind it to move any but a dusting of snow and we get 4’ drifts.

I probably would have been just as happy with a Mule, or Polaris Ranger, if there had been a choice of dealers close.
I didn’t want to pay the 1/3 more for the Kubota diesel, or even more for the Bobcat toolsomething, that even comes with a bucket.

I contend that, for the similar prices, those basic UTVs today are very close to the same, no matter what the brand.

I think it all comes down to intended use.

The Gator is fine for “small” jobs, but really struggles with any kind of load in the back…while the Mule and Kubota can handle a lot more bed weight.

I have miles of internal roads within my farm (all gravel), with 9 run in sheds, etc so using it to patch up roads with gravel is pretty useless. It is fine for moving around small, lighter loads and for cleaning the run in sheds. Driving up fairly steep hills with a load of stuff is a real strain.

It even struggles with a small chain drag if I’m dragging a damp riding arena.

The traction in the snow sucks (making turns) so the Mule and Kubota really have them beat on that.

My Gator is about 18 years old, but I’ve put a lot of $$ into it to keep it going (as back up). For MY farm, I wouldn’t buy one again…not hardy enough for what I need.

If I had 5 or 10 acres of flat land, with little road maintenance, then it would probably be a fine buy.

Jeez, you are comparing an 18 year old Gator to today’s Mules?

That is like comparing how my 1990 F150 pulls my trailer compared with my 2007 F150.
The really old Gators were no better than a golf cart.

EXCELLENT ~ ENJOY ~

EXCELLENT & ENJOY ~~~~:D:cool::yes:

Picture ~ please ~

How about a picture of your new 2011 Kawasaki Mule ~~~:smiley:

No, I’m comparing an 18 year old Gator to my 18 year old Mule. I bought them at the same time.

When I retired the Mule I re-tried a new Gator vs. a Kubota. Same issues with the new Gator as the old vs. a Mule or Kubota.

mine doesn’t, I have the 6x4 gator (6 wheels) and it easily drags the arena leveller, in fact you can’t even feel it’s there.
it also pulls the muck trailer, which when full with wet muck wet must weigh at least a few tonnes, with no problems at all. this is on flat paddocks though.

I love the 4x4 Diesel Gator I use at work.
That thing gets through the deepest snow, sometimes even in 2 wheel drive. I’ve gone through deep mud and nothing stops that thing.

Even in the dead of winter, it starts right up with no problems and it’s left outside under a carport. Love it.

Lather, rinse, repeat, H2.

I was just sharing…as I already stated… that the loads of colors was distracting from her/his messages, and I think they too valuable as a regular poster, to be losing readers with rainbows.

Huntertwo, which model gator do you use?

Interestingly enough, the JD mechanic was out a couple of days ago, and told me it is only the tx that has the aversion to cold weather! Its also I think their most affordable gator, 2wd, etc.

Does it really get through snow? WOWWEEEEE. Mine needs the tractor to shovel a path, and then of course, chains need to be put on as well. Baby.

I love it spring summer fall, but come winter  that thing hates the cold more than me!
