Oh no, Laurie.
What’s the plan?
I think it’s about time you ponied up for a Game Ready When I bought mine (Craigslist special, far less than new) it came with a shoulder wrap. It was AWESOME when I fell down the stairs and screwed up mine…

One more month of PT then recheck and decide from there. Said if I was 30 he would schedule me for surgery immediately. I assume that means I should sit on the couch and wait to die instead.
Laurierace, I totally HATE that attitude from doc’s…
if you aren’t ready for the Game Ready check out the shoulder wrap w/ compression by cold one. Sort of a half jacket w/ lots of frozen bits and lots of compression.
Went to doc number 2 today. He said that the issue w/ HA injections to the hip is that the use is off label, and the manufacturers won’t sell to the docs w/o some kind of liability waiver (guess my doc in Houston got grandfathered or something).
On a good note, however, he agreed that I would not be a particularly good candidate for a scope, and that I should look into THR. He said that there is plenty there to justify one. I also got new x-rays out of the deal, which I think look worse than the ones I had taken in Nov.
He was really nice about it, I think he just thinks it won’t be as great of an outcome as it would be if I was much younger. It made a world of difference with my hips though which counts for something in my book. This is a much harder decision because the pain isn’t a millionth as bad as it was with my hips the majority of the time. I will look into the wrap, thanks.
Laurierace, I’m sorry to hear you are now having shoulder trouble - that must be so frustrating for you!
For the newcomers, I can’t speak to a labral tear as that’s not what I’ve got, but I have had hip pain for nearly a year now and it is finally starting to subside.
Things that have helped me most are acupuncture, chiropractic, ART, and massage therapy. Combine this with me doing my own stretching and ROM exercises (not PT), daily walks, sleeping on a heating pad, and using Aleve if I need to, I am feeling much better.
Actually, I did end up getting custom orthotics and have had them about a week now. I wear them at work because they will fit into some of my work shoes, but there’s no way they’ll fit into any of my boots, so I’m not sure what to do about that.
I actually think that some of my pain has been referred from my foot. I have no idea what is going on in my foot, but it hurts laterally and sort of the middle/back area. My foot deformity (as the doctor calls it) causes me to over-supinate and I don’t really pronate much. That puts all the stress on the lateral part of my foot and that’s where my pain is. And it then runs up my leg into my hip, I think. Maybe I should have a hoof . . . I mean foot xray?
Oh, and wrt riding, I think the most important thing is having a saddle with a twist that is comfortable for me and doesn’t cause me to stretch out in the hips too much. I have a couple saddles that have a wider twist and one treeless saddle that I just can’t ride in anymore.
I tried PT (I think it was the wrong dx so it didn’t help), Pilates (made it so much worse), and strength training (probably a good idea generally but I tried it before I should have, I think). Sticking to my own plan of walking, yoga, and easy riding (I’ve gradually been building up to more time trotting and cantering) has been what has helped me the most, activity-wise.
Surgery June 3rd. I can’t believe it.

Well, shit. Is that labrum, rotator cuff, or both?

Both
Best of luck, Laurierace!
Thanks. I totally forgot you had labrums elsewhere in the body, I thought I was golden after I got the second hip done.
Sorry to hear this I hope the suggestions people offered about night pain are helpful!
In faller-offer news, I’m still about the same, though an encouraging thing is that my PT and I keep finding problematic muscles. I’m so pumped when pain is due to a muscle and not the joint! haha. Most recently I was having some foot pain and numbness, and we discovered it’s due to a tight and spasm-ing piriformis muscle. Cool - I can work with that.
I can’t really ride but I’ve been sneaking in some pony rides on the beginner horses https://www.instagram.com/p/BD4j0LcAuNN/?taken-by=ashleycoxley
The worst thing about it all is just the uncertainty! And the sheer amount of newfound free time that I have no idea what to do with.

My friend tore her shoulder labral the same time I did my hip. Her recovery is actually much worse and painful!
And I now have hit a wall. It’s extremely painful to do a light jog. It during it but after ( an hour or so) my hip hurts like none other. I’m used to the muscle soreness but this seemes a lot worse. It’s not even like I’m out running a marathon. I’m just doing a walk paced jog for 30 sec in PT. I see my surgeon next week so hopefully I’m just taking longer to recover and I won’t need surgery again

Great. Oh well, it’s not like I have a choice.
If you don’t already have one, I suggest a pain doctor. I wasn’t really “right” after my hip surgeries until I had a couple of injections namely piraformus and ischial bursa. I doubt you will need another surgery unless you totally disregarded doctor’s orders while healing.

Where does it hurt? Joint or muscle or flexors or what?
I’d definitely back off of the jogging for awhile! Remind us all how far out you are from surgery?
I was just thinking about hip pain, which I suffer from in one hip rather badly. I now have a sacroiliac belt, and when I wear it my hip pain goes away. If I don’t wear it for a day or two, I can hardly walk. Odd thing is that I had an injection there that did nothing, but the belt does.

Vineyridge - maybe you have referred pain from the SI or low back then. I tried an SI belt, but it goes right across where the hip hurts the worst and I thought my leg was going to fall off…
Back to Doc 1 again for followup and talking ‘forwards’ plans. He still thinks I’m a candidate for a scope. The way he put it was ‘not an IDEAL candidate, but a candidate nonetheless’.
However, the thot travelling to attempt an HA injection was a good idea (nobody around here does them).
He also suggested PRP since they have been having quite a bit of success on knees. Am planning on talking about that to the Dr I’m traveling to as he does these as well, altho I don’t know if he does them on hips.
Hoping things are going really well for Simike…

Three months out next week. I saw my surgeon and he said everything is just inflamed and he prescribed a steroid pack to calm things down. He told me only 3 of his last 250 surgeries have retorn their labrum this far out and it requires something drastic to do it. So that made me feel much better. He told me pushing through pain in this case isn’t a good thing. Recheck is in 6 weeks and hopefully we can talk to me about returning all the way to work and picking up sports again

Ah, you’re just starting. You WERE told this is a six month (plus) rehab, right? Be kind to yourself and I totally agree–DO NOT push through the pain. That’s how I pissed off my hip flexors, and they’re still angry
In other news…I think I am finally ready to admit that the PRP injections were marvelous, but have worn off for me. So that lasted about 6 weeks. They were good weeks. I don’t know what next steps are, but, wow does it ever suck to be back here.
I remember my first epidural before we figured out the problem was actually my hip and not my SI. It was wonderful! I was 100% pain free for about 6 weeks. When it started to wear off I went and got another one and it did nothing. I was devastated. Six weeks was just long enough for me to start to forget all that pain. When it came back I couldn’t believe I ever lived like that.
So sorry your stuff is wearing off, hope they figure something out that works aside from getting the other hip fixed Simkie.

BUUUMMMMMEEEERRRRR!!!
Re the hip flexors Gucci - mine are still pisse off after 6 YEARS! Don’t get the things riled up!
