Joining the hip pain club

Laurierace, have you ever had trigger point therapy done? It’s making a HUGE difference for me. I had so many screwed up movement patterns that I have really painful knots in lots of places that there aren’t supposed to be any.

And one of the WORST is right near the ischial bursa. It got so bad at one point that when DH tried a light massage I screamed.

Of course, getting it worked on wasn’t all that pleasant either…but I think in most places PT’s can dry needle, here they can only use pressure.

I have had deep tissue massage and trigger point injections but not something specifically called trigger point therapy so not sure. My massage therapist elbows the living crap out of my butt of that counts. It’s 4am and I am awake for the 4th time so looks like I will be getting the MRI.

On my way to get the MRI. They don’t waste any time.

My goodness !

Jingles & AO at * full force for you Laurierace !

I am so sorry about your continual health struggles ~

Sending hugs and jingles Laurierace. Hoping for a good outcome, and a quick, lasting solution.

Thanks. It has been a terrible summer. I had the frozen shoulder that was absolute hell to fix then two weeks into it my husband broke his pelvis. His best friend broke his collarbone in three places and his wife is still in the hospital from a compound wrist fracture that needed 12 pins and a plate to fix. Hubby is camping with his family this week and just last night his Mom got up to pee and fell and broke her wrist. I am in the best shape out of everybody at this point! I think I have ridden five times since May and three of those rides were walk only.

They scheduled me for an epidural on the 19th. My MRI was two pages long!

Yikes, Laurie! I hope this is easy to treat and the injection does the trick.

The ishial bursa injection took care of most of the pain so it’s not too bad right now. There is still nerve issues down my right leg though. I don’t think there is anything too concerning on my report but haven’t talked to the doctor yet. I was just shocked when they handed me two pages this time.

My diagnosis. No wonder my leg is on fire.

what the bleep do they think caused THAT???

Laurie-Sending hugs and jingles.

Who knows. The doctor didn’t even call me so he must not be too concerned. His secretary called and said they want me to come in and get an epidural. I called my spine surgeon to ask him to review the MRI so hopefully he will disagree with the findings. No I am not wearing a diaper!

I called the surgeon who was going to do my neck surgery that thankfully I haven’t needed so far and asked if I could make an appointment for him to look at my latest lumbar spine MRI. He had looked at my earlier ones when I was having all the SI pain before we figured out the problem was my hip and declared my lumbar spine to be pristine. I remember that word vividly because at that time I was so desperate to find something, anything to fix that it devastated me.

So so I ask for an appointment and she says that he only wants to see me if he reviews the MRI and wants to work me up for surgery. Said he would look at the MRI this week and get back to me Wednesday or Thursday. Monday secretary calls back and says he wants to see me as soon as possible. Can I come next week? What the fruitbat?! I don’t want back surgery!

How long ago was the “pristine” MRI?

I ask because I had one of those too almost 4 years ago now but have seen no end to lumbar/SI issues (also I’d also gotten a cortisone injection in the hip just in case even though MRI looked ok there too)…

Well the hip surgeries were in 2014 so probably late 2013. I had one in March of 2015 too but he never saw that one.

Damnit, Laurie, STOP IT!

Fingers crossed for not scary news from the neuro guy. How are you feeling now?

Thanks, I don’t feel too bad. I still have the nerve thing going down my leg and into my foot but thanks to a crap ton of gabapentin it doesn’t feel like lava anymore. Just sort of twangy. I am getting an epidural next week and don’t plan to make any decisions regardless of what the surgeon has to say until I see how that works. I do like this doctor though. He is very good/in demand so he doesn’t need to drum up business. He told me years ago with my neck that he doesn’t operate on anyone without sending them to PT and a pain Doctor first. I still have that same pain Doctor and PT to this day and while my chart is as thick as the phone book, I didn’t have neck surgery!

Waiting in the surgeon’s office trying not to cry.
