Just Bought a Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 L Hemi V8, and I cannot contain my excitement!!

Not a question thread, but just wanted to share how excited I am about my recent purchase. I went back and forth on the 1500 v. 2500 (150 v. 250) to pull a 2-horse, aluminum bumper pull with a dressing room, and after talking to the trailer’s manufacturer, I decided that I should be fine with a 1500.

I really lucked out with this truck - it’s beautiful, low mileage, and has a lot of bells and whistles I wasn’t even looking for (hello navi!).

I’d love to hear from anyone else who has the 1500!

What year did you purchase?

I have the same truck in the 2010 version. I love it. I pull an aluminum 2h BP with a dressing room and it works great- great handling, stopping, pulling, etc.
I got the 4 door crew cab (I think it is called that) because it is heavier and roomier so the truck weighs more than the loaded trailer.

I really love the truck and how powerful it is! My DH loves to drive it too- he thinks it is a race car.

Congrats on your new purchase! You are going to love it!

We had the 2012. Will have had it for a year on the 26th. I am very happy with it for pulling the horse trailer and I do drive it to work and the gas mileage is very good.

The only thing I am not happy about is the leg room for long trips. Everyone in my house has long legs, that is the only thing I am not happy with.

Glad to hear you both are so happy with it! I purchased a 2007, but it is basically new. It only has 18,000 miles on it, and the truck is spotless. I wasn’t looking for any bells and whistles, and then just has everything (I recently discovered it has heated seats…yay!). The dealer installed the electric brake controller for free, and it’s all set for towing. It has a clean carfax, and on top of that, I got it for $3,000 less than what Carmax is asking for a 2007 with 90,000. So proud of my purchase!!

OMG, ours has 33,000 Km/ 20,505 miles already. Great deal you will enjoy it. Love heated seats we don’t have in this one in our last one we did.

We have a 2006, purchased new but with just 30,000 miles on it now (I work at home), and I adore it. Our trailer is a steel slant two-horse bumper pull, and the truck does fine with it. Our last truck, a Ford F-150, darn near couldn’t pull the thing, so the first time I hauled with the Dodge, I was giddy at how easy it was – no more white knuckles. Enjoy your new toy!

I bought one new in 2008 - love it . I had the 2500 before that and loved that too but the cost of a new one was just too much at the time so I opted for the 1500. It’s rated to tow 8500 while my 2500 was rated to tow 8850 - the 1500 has a higher rear gear ratio and does have some “heavy duty” parts to it (can’t remember what - I’d have to find my paperwork but it is the Big Horn edition). I really can’t feel the difference between the two when it comes to towing. I just have a basic 2-horse BP Kingston and it does just fine with it. And the best part… that model year has a lifetime warranty :D. (I think the 2007 and 2009’s have that lifetime warranty too if bought new). Yup love the truck!

Yup . 116,000 miles and still drives as nice as it did the day I bought it (new in April 2008). The new ones are super nice and I’d love one but there really is no need for a new one for me :). If I do end up buying a new one one I’ll be getting the 3/4-ton . The dealership I’ve used for years keeps asking when I’m going to trade mine in - I tell them when they meet my requirements (which basically they can’t do ).

Been driving these trucks since 1996 with no issues!

(And just so you know the trucks are no longer a “Dodge” product - they are a separate line of Chrysler vehicles - that’s why you never hear the new trucks referred to as “Dodge Ram”).

had an 07, bought new. great truck, towed 2 horse trailer nicely. got fairly good mileage, but wasn’t 4 wheel drive. I traded it for a 2012, 4.7 which hauls pretty nicely, but I do miss that hemi purr

Still have ours, it pulls great and now we have a small camper that we use when going to horse shows. It is an import truck size camper so about 800lbs with the deck it sits on and my two horse trailer with my big boy (1700 lbs). The truck pull everything just fine even on the big hills (Mts.) that I have to climb to get to some of the events. The next truck will be a 3/4 or 1 ton as I am going to a GN with LQ when I get the money (haha) I don’t think we will sell this truck DH will drive it.
this is the truck/camper with horse trailer.

Thank you for this!

Had a 2011 1500 Hemi. Great truck. Not great mileage and I wasn’t pulling anything. Drive a 2006 2500 turbo diesel now and fuel economy is much better. Plus since it is 2006 I can still use the farm diesel so I save a ton of money that way.

You will like it. Great truck.

Just got our new (used) 2016 Ram 1500 Hemi yesterday! I am so excited to see how it hauls vs. our 2004 F-150 (Lariat 5.7liter v8). That thing worked hard. I think the back up camera will be nice and the factory installed trailer brake system. I love how the Ram handled. Very quiet and smooth.

I know this is an ancient thread, but I’ve been very happy with my 2015 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi. I can’t even complain about the gas mileage; it’s my daily driver and I usually get about 21 mpg which is not terrible IMO. My old GMC Sierra 2500 felt like it got gallons per mile… I think usually around 8-10 mpg without the trailer?

Ancient thread but still very useful info!

I got a 2015 Ram 1500 (Ecodiesel, not hemi) about 6 months ago. I never thought I would love a vehicle like I love this! I love everything about it. It’s my daily driver and pulls my 2-horse trailer great. I’ve been dreaming about having a truck and trailer for about over a decade and still can’t believe it happened!

191,000 on mine and no issues passing my state inspection today. It’s a 2008 (bought new) and basically just has needed routine work on it like brakes, tires, oil changes, etc. Can’t complain - its been a great truck!
