Just when I thought I'd seen it all

But… You can get one with butterflies punched out of the expensive wool. How does that not make it worth every penny?

There is also a very expensive cap.

Maybe they’re trying to appeal to the crowd of riders who are into riding for the “fashion” of it. i.e., the Kim Kardashians of the world who buy over a dozen “freesian horses” [sic] just for the hell of it but have minimal interest in actually being a good rider, or riding in any capacity where having higher tech gear would really make a difference.

If I had to guess, I’d speculate that this is the vanity project of the bored offspring of a very wealthy person(s). “I’m workshopping an exciting nexus of sustainable eco-fabrics with high-end equi-couture”.

Maybe $100
But the real deal would be the time to knit such an item.

The pads in the op look woven to me though

ETA: to be sure, I would not give $100, much less, 1000 for the saddle pad in the op.

$1,000 for a saddle pad seems practically reasonable compared to a $5,700 blanket!

But wait! They also have a $500 blanket surcingle. Please tell me the $5,700 blanket comes with one, or do you need to purchase it separately? :scream:

I am sure that people buy these, insane as it seems! There is a definite market for true luxury in the horse world, and the customer here isn’t the everyday horse owner or even the A circuit riders who will spend $1k on a show coat. It’s the ultra wealthy, who worldwide are very interested in equestrian sport. I ran a tack shop in a big tourist-y city and we had extremely well-off clients from all over the globe. We sold $600 breeches, $3k helmet backpacks… folks didn’t blink, and some would walk in specifically requesting only the best, most special, priciest product we had in each category. If your everyday outfit is a $5k Loro Piana sweater, $900 for a unique, luxurious saddle pad doesn’t seem so extreme.

If this is satire, it’s genius.

Did she buy a dozen horses?

I remember something about her buying a pony for her kid a year or two ago, but nothing else about horses.

Apparently she bought 14 of them “just because”, and one of them was a 7th birthday gift for North.

Well, I don’t keep up with that crew at all, but I hope the horses are having a nice life.

Hermès better be careful, their $480 saddle pad is a downright steal next to these prices! We might have to label them a lower end brand now. :joy:

after seeing $200,000 horse trailers and $150,000 trucks to tow the thing a $1,000 saddle pas appears to be a throw away item when dirty

That cap ad made me snort- “Looks sporty!” “Is comfortable!” <— two things that do not occur to me as I’m shoving a random baseball cap (probably gotten for free) on my head prior to heading out to walk XC or whatever.

I have one of these… honestly I use it more than the horses!
