KD Trakehners dispersal

some drool-worthy horses at this auction

Definitely!

I knew several of the broodmares when I spent a year working under the trainer there… I hope they land softly. There are some sweet ladies and nice producers in the group. One of the mares is one I would snap up in a heartbeat if I was in a position to.

There are bound to be some good deals on some really nice young hunter/jumper prospects, too.

I am only 1 1\2 hours from the sale and will be going. The plus side is I know I won’t have any money to buy! But if there are any COTH people who are doing the online bidding from out of state I can bring them to my place to board until you can get them picked up.

I really like some of the 2012 geldings. If only I wasn’t paying retirement board I would be tempted!

Who do you like as a broodmare or prospect? TIA

That Emerson is super cute!

The mare Casio Pao really produces nice babies, I liked her a lot… even her jumper foals are good movers, so I imagine she could be dual purpose. Really good temperament, too. Powerful, older style mare. I think several of her offspring they have listed would be fantastic prospects- her older ones going under saddle have a really nice jump on them as well as being nice movers, and those two colts listed as stallion prospects are pretty eye-catching. Plus, a couple of them are really loudly marked splash!

I remember Annabel Lee being a really nice mare. Don’t quote me on it, but IF I’m thinking of the right mare I want to say that she was approved for Hanoverian breeding at some point as well.

The mare I would personally be interested in is Taiga. Again, she’s made some nice movers with good hind ends and free shoulders even from not-dressage-oriented sires. I would be seriously considering bidding on her, but I am not particularly interested in the foal she would be carrying if they go ahead with plans to put all mares back in foal.

Tiaga’s daughter Tinkerbelle (who I actually helped foal out and did the halter breaking and baby handling for when I worked there) is a cute mare who I first spotted when searching for a friend-of-a-friend who was horse shopping several months ago. I liked her then, and I like her even more now that she’s been out to shows and done very well.

In general I like what Hirtentanz has sired- good movers and good jumpers from a variety of mares. The Blitz und Donner offspring are generally very nice and correct, and he himself had a phenomenal temperament.

Wow, I love Capulette.

Even though she’s listed as a jumping prospect, I think Ally KGO would make a super dressage horse. Love me some Trakheners! Guess I’d better start playing the lottery again!

Wow, some nice ponies. And I’m shopping…

They have very nice horses. For those that are out of state I am willing to take one of my riders to try out the ones that are going under saddle and send you video if you pay the gas. Also do have some stalls available for short term boarding until you could get them to you.

This situation is a very sad one. I know the KD team very well and they are wonderful people. For whoever is looking, KD is the place to go to find a very nice horse. Too bad I am not in the market for another horse!

The horses look very nice. It’s hard to make $ breeding horses.

The horses are being sold because one of the owners died, not because they were unsuccessful as a business per se. The owner who died was a former investment banker and I imagine that estate is pretty huge and complicated. As far as I know, they ran a good business, selling some very nice horses for big money through their CA jumper trainer every year. They invested a lot in really high quality broodmares and very good stallions. I find it so incredibly sad really but I guess that’s how the cookie crumbles. It’s a loss for the Trakehner folks to have such an anchor breeding farm close its doors.

I will be going to the auction with a nearly empty pocketbook because of our new farm, unfortunately!

And epowers is right, Annabell Lee is approved Hannoverian and I believe received the highest score at the site at her AHS inspection (I spoke with the former owner about her). She used to be owned by Maple Run Farm that breeds Hannoverian.

That is why this whole thing is so sad! Silvia is such a great trainer and makes them lovely riding horses! I just hope she does the same thing for someone else!

Yes, I agree! Silvia and the whole KD team were exceedingly professional and wonderful people. This news just bummed me out so much that what David Beattie and Kevin built for so many years becomes dismantled in a matter of months after David dies. Hopefully all the people and horses land softly.
