KD Trakehners dispersal

If any buyers need horses transported after the auction, I and my rig will be available. I live and work at KD Trakehners, and I suspect I’ll have a bit of free time after the auction.

Malinda, so kind of you to offer. I am so sorry about the farm and I hope you go on to a good new chapter in your career.

Do you happen to know how long buyers will have to transport the horses off the farm after the auction?

Thanks, Herze.

Arrangements can be made for short-term boarding here, but ideally, they would like all the horses to leave as soon as possible after the auction.

Well there you are everyone. A person willing to transport, and I have a place you can board for a bit.

Malinda, so sorry about all of this. I know our mutual farrier will miss the horses and more so the people there.

On the plus side I think everything is going to go out of my mediocre price range so it will be safe for me to come watch at least.

Does anyone dare to venture a guess for the average price on the riding horses? I may be flying in from Canada. Accommodations for anything we may purchase would be wonderful, as shopping it back may prove tedious. Couture, I have sent you a PM.

My guess is $15,000.-$25,000. and much higher for the stallions.

And the prices for the youngsters? A couple I have had my eye on…but, guessing they will be out of my budget…15-25k sounds high for the U/S horses given what they have been historically advertised & sold for (yes, I’ve been watching them since I saw Hirtenanz himself…), but, maybe…

I could be wrong but they have sold many in California and Florida for big prices but the mid level horses that were sold at the farm were $15,000 - $20,000, also I’m not talking about the three year olds justed started. A few that are selling are some of the ones they planned on keeping. As for the youngsters I’m not sure but more folks I’ve spoke with have had interest in youngstock.

Well, sounds like they will be above my budget. I guess it’s a good thing I will be busy horse-showing that day

I’m curious if anyone can shed light on whether the other partner will be attempting to buy out the estate’s half of horses through the auction. I’m really interested in attending - but if the partner is bidding and/or the estate has reserves (which has been stated in the terms of sale) it could end up being a wasted (long) trip. If he (the other partner) wants to buy anything in the sale he has a much stronger position - theoretically - as he already owns a portion of what is being sold. Thoughts?

I know that there are no reserves on the horses, and as far as I know they are all looking for new homes as KD will not continue to be a breeding farm that raises and shows it’s own horses, but purely a boarding and training farm. I have double checked for you and will report back.

I would appreciate any information. When I first inquired about the auction I was told that there were no reserves and everything would be sold. However, there was a post on their Facebook page last month stating that this was not an absolute auction, and from the T&C of Sale “Seller, Sellers or Seller’s agent(s) reserves the right to bid. The right to no-sale any horse is reserved for all sales before they leave the auction ring.” Basically, this states that they have the right to have an unannounced reserve. I’m just wanting to be sure that I don’t waste a trip. Thanks.

So, in other words, they wised up, and won’t be basically giving the horses away if hardly anyone shows up, or there is a freak weather event.

Good for them.

That is one use of that policy - and I completely agree if that is the only intended use.

That is basically my understanding. They WANT to sell all of the horses, but, for another example, they are not going to let their really good licensed stallion go for something stupid like 10 or 20k, and at that point would step in. It is still expected that most horses will sell for well under their normal market value, but they can’t let everything go for almost nothing. There is also the option of bidding by phone or internet if you don’t want to make the trip out there in person!

Will anyone be publishing a list of sale prices for these horses after the auction?

I won’t be there in person, but I have a friendly wager on how much my favorites will bring …

Hirtentanz’s latest showing on video (sire of several of the horses selling).

Going for steals. Still out of my price range though.

Some really nice horses sold for ridiculously low prices. Lots of lucky buyers today.

Wish I would have had more money. There were steals there to be had but I was broke. I wrote all the prices down if anyone was interested
