Quite the cluster. Hip 87 was late. Called out of the sale, but was not. Several horses later the handlers brought the filly in the wrong door. In the ring the filly backed up, briefly pinning the grooms to the door. Door opened and the filly backed out of the ring, taking a handler with her while the bidding continued. Sold for 1.5M

Smiles all around. Those grooms will never live it down.

I wonder what Brian the Bold sold for if he has. I think he’s my top pick.

I’m really happy for all of the breeders who are doing well. It’s not an easy game.

It was funny, but it could have gone very badly if the filly had decided to kick.

It’s always a pleasure to see a good market and especially to see home breds bring great prices. It seems the top of the market is healthy. I hope the lower books will show some growth this year for the middle market breeders.

Interesting about #87. I only saw a short clip of what happened, but apparently she backed out of the ring. Not sure if it was handlers’ error or her behavior. If it was her behavior, it does not seem to have concerned anyone, as she brought 1.5 M. Or would she have brought more if she stayed in the ring cool and collected?

I ask because so many buyers/sellers comment upon the exemplary behavior of their yearlings in the ring.

Great article breaking down some of the stats and key players after Day 1.

It’ll be interesting to see if they use it in her name…
