Kelly's Ford HT?
They are actively looking for someone. I have spoken to the current manager (Beth) about it and put her in contact with people. I received the email they sent to boarders, Beth is acting manager until they find someone to replace Jim. Jim was in charge of all of those silent auction things. The owners probably didn’t know he offered those to the CDCTA. While the owners are not the greatest (and this is known) there was A LOT that went on behind their backs that they were not aware of, and I have a feeling, there is MUCH more than we know about.
If they didn’t want the horse trials (they may not be able to run in the spring but perhaps the fall) WHY would the owners sign up and become USEA members and be in touch with Area 2 and the USEA if they were going to abandon them?
Thank you! MLI, for the validation!!!

Ironwood- Have you tried to contact Beth? Maybe she can help you out? If you contacted the owners directly, they might not fully understand. (after all, they aren’t horse people)

And, if every business ran perfectly, everyone in the horse industry would probably be in a different position

ROFLMAO. Then have your source explain why they reneged on the entry for the Spring HT donated to the CDCTA Silent Auction. I had to refund it to the bidder as the owners were not holding a HT and not returning any funds.
Well, that is plain crummy… and poor public relations for sure…

but (as we now know) this has nothing to do with their intent to run future horse trials, after this spring, nor their intent to hire an organizer and a manager…

MLI, the donation was for an entry in the spring recognized HT. It has been cancelled and no compensation offered to CDCTA. We did take the high road and refunded the bid. I have no interest in getting involved with their management problems which seems to involve lawyers these days.

CDCTA has two recognized HTs to run in April, so no time for drama here.

And Winding Down, since I know you work in mental health care, I would point out that what one’s intention and what one does are two different things. I don’t put much store in intentions myself perhaps because so often they are never realized.

Wait, given that their HT is (at this moment) cancelled, doesn’t it kinda make since to take back their donated entry? What am I missing here?

I’m not privy to the details, nor am I involved with KF but as someone who had a former business partner (who is apart of the Usef officials community) who stole funds and put me in a financially tricky situation I can easily relate to the size and the scope of what’s happening and the tough choices behind obligations created by an individual who was acting not in regard to the business. There’s a point where you do have to prioritize in something this serious and unfortunately a silent auction versus figuring out many of the other details (IRS probably among them) associated with these is lower priority.

Should have it been handled differently? Yes, but I also think people should hold tight and give some room while the details are sorted.

Pologirl, they donated to a 501©(3) non-profit. Someone PAID $$$ for that entry through our auction. CDCTA received the money. That person can’t use the entry he/she paid for, just as the people who received refunds from the 2014 Spring HT can’t use the compensation they were given. As the Auction Chair, I cannot say “Oh, too bad for you,” to the people who support CDCTA. Who would anyone ever bid in our Auction if they thought they would not receive the donation? This is CDCTA’s only major fundraiser, so maintaining its integrity is important to me.

I have had other facilities have to cancel shows where entries have been donated. They have all be gracious enough to offer to refund the bidder’s money or offer an alternative. I would be thrilled to have the refund from KFEC.

KF donated an entry minus fees so it did not cost them actual out of pocket expenses. CDCTA then received $ for the entry. If KF is unable to keep their pledge, then no one loses anything. CDCTA gives the donation back to the winner so does not get a profit from that action item. So CDCTA is asking KF to give them $ and KF, for reasons that we do NOT know, is refusing to do that. I agree with someone above said not good PR. But doesnt it make sense since KF is in an organization crises and has set priorities? I just do not know why this is part of saying they are not going to follow through with having a horse trial in the future and all that, and that is what this thread is about

Thanks for clarifying Ironwood. Yes I think it would have been very kind for KF to offer to pay the refund, but I can understand why they would pull the donation. I wonder if they did the same thing with their other donated entries.

They did not pull the donation. The donation was made and it was sold. So CDCTA is out the money it should have had in its fundraising efforts. And CDCTA did a great deal of promotion for KFEC.

The other donation is a lesson with Jim Moore and he is honoring it.

I am unaware that KFEC is in some sort of financial crisis. They have a dispute with a now former employee and have had two recognized HT cancelled. The question was would there be any HTs there – my feeling is not anytime soon for recognized because if that was the case, the simplest thing to do was to offer an entry to one these HTs to the high bidder. But there is nothing to offer.
