Kentucky Three Day Event 2024

On one of the course walks last year Dickie Waygood and Kyle Carter were discussing how the terrain here doesn’t have huge hills but is absolutely undulating and a lot of people underestimate that/aren’t prepared for it. Most think it’s fairly flat but once you ride it you realize that there are actually a ton of terrain changes and that takes it out of horse and rider.

I’m from PA and every casual hack out covers vastly more changes in elevation than there are in KY, but for people who aren’t training in a super hilly area like that, I can see why the horse park could present some difficulty.

Thank you! That’s actually where I’m parked out right now so :crossed_fingers:

One of the riders pointed out the Head of the Lake as needing an accurate ride and possibly being tough. I feel like HoL usually rides pretty well though.

I think it will be 15ABC, the EEI Root Cellar - big drop to two narrow chevrons. There could be some drive-bys if the riders don’t get there line. The terrain on the Hollow could lead to run outs at the corner at C there too.

I agree the coffin at the Park question will cause a fair amount of problems, too. It’ll be interesting to see if many take the long route, especially if the horses are getting tired.

WHY is clipmyhorse SO BAD!! It absolutely will not link to my USEF, or stay logged in. I was literally watching the 4* XC earlier….SO FRUSTRATING.

I got it sorted out but it never works until somehow doing the same thing for the 12th time it does. Grr.

Frankie said it’s just starting to rain down in KY. I don’t imagine it will change the footing much, but depending how much, the grass might get a little slick.

It rained HARD for a period of about 2 days here in Mo this week. I was afraid the time would just about do this.

I agree with this. Badminton had a similar configuration years ago and it created a lot of slide bys.

Thank god they aren’t using Frankie in the booth for the 5star

Unfortunate for Sarah. I really like her as a rider, but Rock Phantom just didn’t seem in it today. I know it only just started raining, but I wonder if he felt like he was slipping a little bit.

Ooof, first rider out on course and already a retirement! Looks like the footing might be a little slick and greasy with the badly timed rain.

I’m photographing this weekend… Starting at the root cellar. I’m curious how it rides… Hoping it photos well.

I’m sure the down bank will photograph amazing!

100% agree. I don’t know what her horse is normally like, but he didn’t look forward thinking today.

Of all 3 horses that have gotten to the first water, none looked to be on the right stride.

The person in the chair at HOTL lololol

Did we miss Jenny going through the Park question while they were showing Susie’s replay? Such a shame for Susie when it was starting so well.

Only 3 seconds over for Jennie!!! What a great first clear.
