KWPN-NA Top Fives are up

First I have to say that Judy, “Joshua’s Mom” is the reason I am following this thread! I always enjoy speaking with her at the horse shows about her breeding program and her favorite Dutch Stalllons.

The Wynton colt is registered GOV (just received his passport today) so I think that excludes me from coming to any keurings! . But I would love to attend a Keuring with you next year some time?

How cool is it that two full sisters (Ferro x Wanroij) both made the “Top Five” list? One, Zenda, Ster Prok, as a jumper, the other, Bosanova, Keur Eligible as a dressage horse. Gotta love my Wanroij mare! Having Ferro as the sire didn’t hurt either.

Congrats to everyone on their horses! I look forward to reading the entire results. I wish it was possible for me to attend other keurings as a spectator to see some of these fabulous horses in the flesh.

Two full sisters bred by Prima Equestrian also made the Top Five- Ahme P and Beyond P— both out of Rumpole by Ferro and by Ahorn. Gotta love these sister acts! My understanding is that Rumpole’s 2009 foal didn’t do too shabbily either!

Is there going to be an On The Road commentary?

What about that Chin Chin colt? Any colts approved to go on for stallion consideration?

KWPN horses

Hi All, I am posting this photo for Dutchbreeders for those of you that asked about Bleu SCF, who was awarded THE “HIGH POINT MATURE JUMPER” award at the ISF keuring and the Ster Predicate…I also bred a KWPN colt this year, Epic Times (Goodtimes x Alino Queen 9Michellino x Michelangelo)) that I am quite proud of…in his class of Dressage foals at ISF he came in second behind the unbelievable DAD multi Champion Rabiola’s foal…not a bad place to be! Here are 2 photos of him also, and congrats to his new owner Rebecca Mouras! He is a full sibling to my recently licensed Oldenburg Stallion Good as Gold. Bleu SCF is the black mare with the unbelievable jump in the photos!

Colts approved for stallion consideration

Hi Oakstable! At ISF there was one colt at ISF that was “Pre-Approved” as a 2 year old as a stallion candidate…CARTE BLANCHE SCF (LUPICOR X WILDCARD KEUR ELITE) was awarded the KWPN’s, earned the KWPN’S PRE-APPROVAL and was awarded the #1 SPOT IN THE US FOR 2YR OLD COLTS, repeating his success as a foal as the #1 jumper foal and also on the KWPN Top 5 list. There are photos of him on Stacy lynnes page…

Congrats to everyone on their wonderful horses at all the keurings accross NA!

I do not have to chance to visit here often but wanted to thank Sakura Hill Farm and their team for your kind words re Ahme and also Beyond and it is you we should thank for giving Ahme such a wonderful home and the super job with training her. We wish you all the best and looking forward to seeing her in the show ring.

It seems like a lifetime ago but after Ahme left our farm and we were blessed with Beyond the following year there was no way we could part with Beyond as to be given two back to back Ahorn mares well this does not happen to one very often.

This year was the first time we have presented Beyond to the jury she has been kept away at our farm during each of our keurings waiting to shine this year. I adore this mare and in one day she went from Ster to Keur passing her IBOP with the #1 IBOP Jumper mark in NA after only two months under saddle and only 7 times jumping with a rider on her back. Our long time trainer who is a world class dressage rider not a jumper rider was fantastic in every possible way!

So Beyond did her jumping IBOP ridden by our Dressage trainer as all of our young horses are started and trained in Dressage first. We have always felt that it is the flat work that makes a jumper.

Sally, I think your are referring to the stallion we bred Bambino Chin P (Chin Chin x Rolanda Elite (Ahorn), he was at our Keuring and received Ster in the three year old stallion pre-approval. His owners have discussed some future plans for him with the jury. As I was part of some of the conversations I can say that the jury have requested for him to be viewed under saddle this is the next step along with the necessary vetting requirements.

Bambino is very tall at well over 17.1 hands and needs time to fill out and get use to his huge stride and body this will take time and also under saddle work which now must begin. As part of the pre-approval the jury has to see stallions under saddle in work so Bambino has to meet this requirement now to move forward in the process.

While it is fantastic he recieved Ster and everyone is thrilled with this result the KWPN stallion approval process has many steps. Bambino has been backed but given his size his owners do not want to push him and ask too much too soon so he will start his under saddle work now and see where this takes him.

There were many lovely horses at our keuring and the foal class was one of the best I have seen all foals presented both in the jumper and also dressage classes received first premium. The jury ran out of orange ribbons at our keuring this was a first for us here in Canada!

The #1 IBOP Dressage Mare Amelia (Jacardo x Kelvin) owned by the Topilko’s was at our keuring, we saw this super mare make Ster last year and she looking amazing this year under saddle.

The #1 Jumper Mare in North America Bieni owned by Rivercross Farm was amazing she is Cardento x Lux-Z imported from Holland. This was the first time Rivercross has attended a keuring so we are thrilled for them. Watch out for this mare super type with so much scope, can not wait to see her under saddle, no question she will make Keur she was the best free jumper of the day. Our Beyond was a close second to the lovely Bieni.

Three super foals from our keuring made the top five list- two in the jumper class and one in the hunter class.

Sadly two of top foals that we bred this year both by Chin Chin were unable to show one due to an injury and the other we have high high hopes for Emperor Chin P he was too young at only two months. He is the full blood sibling to Bambino Chin and he is as lovely as his brother so watch out for him in the years to come.

Nice to see all the different bloodlines many of which you see time and time again each year on the top five list and what truly amazing horses we have here in North America.

Sounds like you had a super keuring Prima, with all the lovely and talented horses and a great rider. Congrats! I must correct you that the first time the jury ran out of Orange ribbons in Canada was at our 2002 keuring in Nova Scotia. We ran back to the stalls and borrowed ribbons that had already been awarded.

Sakura, you a right, of course about Prima’s full sisters both making Top Five.
My point was that my full sisters achieved this result in different disciplines.
It’s all good!

I look at the extensive Top Five list of dressage mares and think how far we, as breeders have come in these past ten years or so. We all have a lot to be proud of.

Stats from Top Five

Hi - I took a few minutes to go though the sire stats for the KWPN Top Five. I excluded Harness horses just becasuse there were not many bloodlines represented.

Here are the top sires & dam sires. Jumper, dressage & hunter combined. I am only listing the stallions with more than 1 offspring on the list since there were a total of 44 sires represented. Some offspring had more than 1 Top 5 placing - i.e. DG Bar Cup, IBOP but they were counted once.

Sire’s with multiple offspring

Sire (44 represented in Top Five)
Sir Sinclair - 6
Contango - 5
Ferro 5
Consul 4
Rousseau 4
Flemmingh 3
Indoctro 3
UB40 3
Ahorn 2
Florencio 2
Freestyle 2
Jazz 2
Johnson 2
Prestige VDL 2

Dam’s sires ( 48 sires represented)

Goodtimes 5
Consul 4
Gribaldi 4
Idocus 4
Wanroij 4
Ferro 3
Jazz 3
Corland 2
Damiro B 2
Havidoff 2
Piano II 2
Rolls Royce 2
Volckmar 2
Wellington 2

Meghan.
That took more than “a few minutes.” I started down the same road so I know.

Thank you for tabulating that.

In years past, the Dutch published all the results. Is that going to happen in paper form? or even online?

The Top 5 is an elite group but I’d like to see all the results.

Also, I am happy to see in the Top 5 listings the names of stallions as sires and dam sires who stood or stand in NA.

Really? Well then my Orange ribbons must have been borrowed from someone else since my foal was the last one to be granted First Premium.

Well, I was not aware of that. Sorry!

Thanks Meghan, and huge CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH DUTCH AND PRIMA ON THEIR MULTIPLE ACH

Thanks for the great (and important) information Meghan!! Very interesting, and very much appreciated!

“Sakura, you a right, of course about Prima’s full sisters both making Top Five.

Huge Congratulations to both Dutch and Prima for your MULTIPLE (and related) successes!!! What a feat! Dutch, you are my Hero…I am, and always will be, a Die Hard All Around Breeder…If we don’t aspire to create a horse that can do it all, then “we” DEFINITELY will never produce a horse that comes close to the ideal athlete…A horse that is Capable of both Show Jumping and Dressage at the highest level! KUDOS! Karin

We at Sakura Hill Farm certainly have no quarrels with those who seek to produce “A horse that is capable of both Show Jumping and Dressage at the Highest level!”.
However, we do espouse the current specialization within KWPN among Jumpers, Dressage and Hunters (in NA). We do not seek to produce horses capable “Dressage at the highest level!” We prefer to leave that to the experts in that area while we focus in Junpers and Hunters at the highest levels.

Speaking of multiple successes of siblings, I would be remiss to to remark on the success of Gwen Blake and her mare, Precious Day by Gribaldi. Crossed with Contango, this mare produced three full siblings, all Top Five: Beyonce, who was #1 dressage mare; Contessa, who was #1 dressage two year-old; Dominique, who was #4 dressage yearling. Way to go!! And of course, congrats to ISF and Contango for his contribution.

Thanks Meghan for the stats. I appreciate the time it took you to compile this list.

While I don’t aspire to have one horse compete at the highest level in more than one discipline, it is always nice to have a mare that can produce offspring that show talent in more than one discipline. I fear the time if/when jumper blood is totally diluted out of the dressage lines. Many of the top dressage horses come from jumping lines. This does not work so well in reverse however.
