Lamaze disqualified after winning Aachen Youngsters Cup - use of hind boots

Veredus posted above, Equifit, and Kentucky all sell YH legal hind boots like Eskadron…but nicer. May be more companies now but I know of these 3 for sure.

I still don’t get the problem with elastic.

I’d personally rather have elastic that will have some give as my horse moves.

It’s because an elastic strap can be cranked really tight and made to be ouchy.

but why not have a rule saying that elastic straps are permissible provided that [x] criteria is met. Something like you can fit one finger inside it or something. but to outlaw it altogether?

Because that is a subjective rule.

Love those veredus boots.

I know it’s subjective, but the rule itself is ridiculous. I know they are trying to protect the horses, but at some point are they really going to be able to prevent every possible bad thing from happening?

I don’t keep up with the rules because I don’t show at that level. But people who earn their income and livelyhoods I would expect to know the rules. Even new rules. Do you think pros just don’t keep up with rule changes? I can see an ammy missing a rule, but would think pros are up on those things. Or is just the bad dissemination of rules?[/QUOTE]

Even if you agree or disagree with the rule, you’d think someone who shows at the level would be familiar with the rules.

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking. In my profession I best be sure I’m up on all laws, rules, and regulations. If I didn’t follow them, it would probably hurt more than being disqualified from a class.

No they’re not. But you asked why not have the rule based on [x] criteria is met. The answer to THAT question is because that’s a subjective rule.

Rules and laws are written to provide consequences to those people who do bad things. Do they prevent all bad things? No. Are they having to write it to the lowest common denominator? Yes.

If you have ever seen the distress a horse exhibits when his fetlock boots are cranked up in the schooling area just before he enters the competition ring, you might find the rule long overdue.

I can imagine stewards using their fingers in a different manner if they had to bend over all day messing with hot horses rear hoofs.

Totally ignorant here – but what are “Doda” boots?

It is a brand name. If you google them you will find pictures and information.

Well boots with elastics can be turned into pinch boots if you do them up tightly, too so that’s why that is there. We use boots similar to these ones as gentle reminders to the horse that they have a back end.

Some horses respond well to those, others need more encouragement so something else is used.

Also adding most FEI classes have a boot check where as soon as the horse is out of the ring the steward (now the grooms) are required to remove, check and weigh the boots to insure that there is nothing illegal. So yes that is when they will check the boots to make sure they are done correctly.

The new rule effective as of July 1st does not replace the standard boot/bandage check performed at the outgate after the competition round. The new guidelines allow for inspection of the boots and their application prior to competing.

It would never occur to me to over tighten boots so they pinch…

I had a pair of nice leather boots, with buckles, I know they can/ cold be made to upinch!!!
