Lansdowne

Anyone know the breeding of this 8 year old stallion that has been superb at the Royal in the big boy/girl classes? and add in breeding of Regina Z. Thanks!!y

I too really liked him-- more and more as the week went on. All I could find on the Swail website is that he is by Guidam x Wolfgang.

Regina Z is by the BWP stallion Rex Z out of a mare named Just A Dream.

try this - only 1 “d”

Thanks Nod Hill!
I shall remember it is Lansdowne!
And wow! Regina Z is out of a full trotter dam!

The Royal was sheer delight and great jumper classes with very challenging courses. Now to find the course designer:)

I fell in love with Lansdowne as well and I called Regina Z and Harrie as winners last night. Saw them on Wednesday and was awed!

I think that’s the perfect amount of “full” outcross for a Rex Z - sired baby, since he himself of the product of full siblings. Clearly a successful breeding experiment (inbred sire to complete outcross dam)

Ha, when I read stuff like this, I wonder if I should start my own line of Selle “Quebecois”. lol.
I have a BWP x trotter mare that moves amazing, and jumps like stink. Loves to canter.

LOVE this horse. Really was hoping he’d win the Big Ben Challenge on Saturday night. Wonderful animal. He “flowed” over the fences. Beautiful to watch.

Funny reference to the full trotting mare. I met Franz Rombach many many years ago while looking at stallions. Franz owned Lorbas and swore by using the French Trotting mares in his program. At the time it was quite a “different” idea at least to us. His logic appears to have worked time and again.

I saw him at the Royal, he is just lovely. One to keep an eye on

The interesting thing about Regina Z is that her sire is the product of breeding two full siblings, Rex Z and Ratina Z (yes, THE Ratina Z).

Looks to me as if the trotter part in Regina Z was far more Standardbred than French Trotter. I doubt is Paardenfokken even knows what a Standardbred is.

It’s a very interesting breeding in many ways. Halla, anyone? Galoubet? Perhaps we should take closer looks at Standardbreds for performance horse breeding.

Balubet du Rouet’s sire, Galoubet, was out of a trotter mare, Viti.

Diana McDonald from Camelot Farm has used Standardbred’s in her breeding program, but do not know how successfully.

I totally agree. Trotting s’breds have a lot to offer in sport horse breeding. The mare I have never gets guessed right as to her breeding. She is just seen as a mare who can 3 great gaits, and a serious jump:-).
The French have known about this in their jumping horses for a long time :-).
Even Bunstpecht de Lauzelle, mostly all Hanno blood, but trotter line on the bottom that most people dont notice:-)

Slight typo in the above: The siblings who produced Rex Z were actually Rebel Z & Ratina Z.

Whoops…too many R’s…Thanks!

Lansdowne is coming to Canada! Yann Candele has landed the ride. Just in time for the Olympics…

AWESOME NEWS!!! Thanks for this! I hadn’t heard this, but I fell in love with the stallion at the Royal. I e-mailed Connor for some more info on him re: breeding. He was not standing him at stud, although he told me Lansdowne’s old name was Wietvot.

I have googled Wietvot and found some foals by him, but no info on shipping semen.

I am SO happy he is coming to Canada!!

This year’s jumper course designer was Alan Wade of Ireland.

This year he did shows in Lexington, Upperville, Old Salem Farm, and Vermont.

He is part of the course design/build team that is doing the London Olympics under head course designer Bob Ellis.

I loved him at the Royal! So glad Yann got him… lucky Yann when he decided to become a Canadian citizen!!!
It looks like Eric Lamaze has a new horse too, but he is not owned by Canadians, so not eligible for the Olympics!! http://www.hunters.be/_html/main.php?id=70&taal=en&page=nieuws
