Leases in the Western World

Do leases exist in the western world? I would like to breed my WP mare next year and I don’t really want to buy another horse. I rarely see western horses for lease.

There are leases in the “western” world, actually AQHA has regulations on them for showing purposes (I don’t know much about them but had a friend considering a show type of lease so we looked into it through aqha…I’m sure you can find info on their website).

Leases are just starting to become popular in the western world. Starting last year, amateurs were allowed to show leased horses without risk of losing their amateur status. There are 2 types of leases with AQHA: show and breeding. I do not believe that leased horses are eligible for all competitions. I think that you cannot show a leased horse at Congress, but I could be wrong.

NOTE - Leases are acceptable with AQHA, I am not sure of what is allowed with other breed associations.

Congress is accepting leases this year (for the first time) but they must be official AQHA leases (on file with AQHA and following of their restrictions).

Leases have been around forever in the Morgan world. One lease covers anything…show or breeding.

Good to know! Thanks! Are leases allowed at the world shows?
