Length of Tryon's World Equestrian Games Cross Country Course in Question

Let us hope that 400m is just typo (like mine with numbers), and they meant 4000m. The entire course is supposed to be 5700m.

I don’t know, it sounds messed up though lol

I asked about moving the xc on thread on the WEG page but I just looked at google maps and there’s nothing closer than 4-5 hours even if they could scramble and get the venue ready for xc that quickly. And I doubt they’d want to ship the horses that far just for xc. Tryon really is in the middle of no mans land as far as big time events. This is a mess.

eta I bet if you told the folks at Rebecca farm that they could have the eventing portion of WEG if they could get ready in a couple of weeks they’d find a way to make it happen.

Knowing how long it has taken footing to settle in the ring that we excavated at my house, I cannot even imagine that they are going to have hills built and safe in the remaining time. I know that there is special machinery to do this, but ground needs time to settle.

To quote the honorable Lord Buckethead, it will be a sh!tshow.

Seriously, I hope somebody at the USEF/FEI could get their heads out of his ass long enough to realize that Belissimo is NOT a friend of horse sport, least of all, Eventing.

Typo? More like a Freudian slip.

Dying :lol::lol::lol:

It seemed clear enough to me that 400 m of the course is meant to run on the all weather surface at start of course and another 400 m and at the end of the course.

For what it’s worth, this was discussed in the most recent episode of the Eventing Radio Show (fast forward to 37:30). At least from their explanation, this sounds like it’s being blown a little out of proportion.

If it weren’t for the past experiences with the AECs and Pony Club Championships, we might not be quite so sensitive about Tryon.

Meanwhile USPC is having its Eastern Championships this week at Tryon. I wonder what THEIR XC course is like.

I think the article means that after the section that’s not complete, itll be another 400m, then back onto all weather for the end.

tbh though what else was the fei supposed to do? Bromont ditched it at the last minute and nobody else really wanted it. Hell France had 4 years to plan and it was still a cluster.

Maybe it is time to rethink the entire WEG concept. Canada backed out at almost the 11th hour and no one else wanted it, probably for good reason. I realize Belissimo is far from a choir boy, but without Tryon what would the FEI have done? As I said, it might be time to ditch the WEG concept and go back to each discipline hosting it’s own world champs somewhere, as it used to be done.

From what I saw of it on FB it looked pretty good this year actually. Way less loopy than in the past.

The footing was good today. the course was normal with some steep hills.

Um, Kentucky wanted it. FEI said no because they hadn’t finished crapping on Rolex enough. Just sayin’, there was another option.

The pony club courses are way better this year than in 2016, but there’s still plenty of room for improvement.

I think the bigger issue is if they can get everything else done in time. PC champs is solidly in the middle of a major construction zone and I don’t think they have enough time left to get it all done.

Kentucky wanted it when they awarded it to Bromont. After Bromont pulled out, Kentucky’s new governor said thanks, but no thanks. They also pulled out of consideration for 2022. It’s a different political environment in KY right now.

Kentucky turned down the opportunity to host again. KHP had a title sponsor who donated $10 million prior to the WEG and KHP still ended up with a $10 million deficit when all was said and done. Fortunately, the same title sponsor bailed KHP out. However, they will no longer sponsor an event in the USA and are spending their sponsorship $ in Europe.

Also that sponsor’s founder passed away, and he was the one who was so supportive of WEG. I still don’t know how TIEC got around the sponsor conflict between Rolex (TIEC sponsor) & Longines (FEI sponsor). WEF hasn’t been able to have World Cup qualifiers due to Rolex sponsoring WEF.
