Lets talk about Butt abrasions from riding..

Hot weather issues

I have this problem in hot weather too! My inner thigh and nether region area will break out, and after 5-7 horses, day after day, it turns into rubs. I have tried anti-monkey but powder, no underwear, thongs, biking shorts, etc. underwear seems to make it worse where the seams/elastic are. I have found some relief with a monistat ani-chafing gel that I put where I have gotten rubbed (anywhere from inner thigh to butt region). I ride many different horses in all different saddles and I don’t have this problem when the weather is cooler. I don’t know if it’s heat rash, then exacerbated by more riding, or what? I’ll check out Inverness problem. I remember when I first joined these forums, I started to read it, but I was young, and modest, and turning red behind the computer screen…but I’ll give it another go, now that I’m more “mature” ??

Try body glide applied in areas you get rubs & baby diaper rash after to any irritations. This plus bike shorts helped me, although in summers I still get it some. Maybe trying switching breeches a couple times a day so you dont stay in sweaty pants too long that may be contributing to the breakouts.

I’ll try that! What a pain in the butt! Literally!

I agree with the person who said change to knee patch breeches, i also agree that this may also be how you ride the canter, i think perhaps you are trying too hard, Stop polishing the saddle with your tail bone look at the good riders, they are not shifting in the saddle when they ride the canter, they are moving as much as the horse, not more, not less.

while i have never rubbed raw. i had a pupil who found moleskin is very very useful to heal. but riding correctly is the long term fix.

Yes, it might take a while before you are riding correctly enough to not be rubbed so all the other stuff will help in the meantime

–I don’t believe it is necessarily a sign of riding incorrectly.
–I’ve always been told that experienced riders DO NOT SIT STILL. They move with the horse, and they appear to be still b/c they are in synch with the horse’s movement. For proof, look at the oscillating hips, knees, ankles, shoulders of top riders.
– Depending on where the chafing is, you could try a “light days” pad and some of the goo – butt butter, body glide, etc – in the offended area. While I think the Jellypantz are a great idea, they are expensive and there is something to be said for a disposable option…

not that it’s fun to share in the experience, but after one long sitting trot serpentines without stirrups, I rubbed myself raw too…not on my butt, but where my leg and crotch meet. I’ve changed underwear to Knix wear, switched breeches and think it’s likely the saddle and the horse.

Still hurts though. good luck!

Well suprised to see this thred resurface looking at the date it is now 2+ years ago that I was dealing with the Raw spot. I have not had a reaccurance since a short time after the original posting Yay. I do think that it was to do with my riding the canter and that I was out of sync durring the canter. I did a lot more work on following and staying with the canter at that time. I would say with improvement in my riding I got past my problem. Now I have a new horse even with a much bigger and different canter so we shall see if that changes things but I hope I have seen my last of the Raw…

I don’t think it’s how I ride, but I think it’s related to summer/heat/sweat and I just realized, SHAVING! I can just go out and do trot sets, and I will still get rubbed. But, keep in mind, I’m on many horses/saddles through out the day… So perhaps changing breeches will help. I’ll have to look for moleskin- do you just leave it in until it falls off?

Hi Knixwear, Your site showed up in my FB feed. I did take a look but could not find an actual description of your products – is it just the wicking material? More info is needed.

Did you revived a thread that is 3 yrs old just so you can advertise your product in spite of the NO ADVERTISING policy?

Oh, Okay… you joined, and so far have revived 3 different threads.

How completely dishonorable. Won’t ever use your product
