Letting horse roll while on leadrope

Most people at my farm do this and no one complains.

I try not to do it when people are riding, but I don’t mind at all if someone does it while I’m riding.
None of us at our farm (minus one or two people) are that “hardcore” that it would completely disrupt our ride.
Most of the time we are goofing around, trotting side by side or the like. Not many people are working on their half pass and pirouette maneuvers.

None of us would belong at a barn where non-rolling was the norm, so I agree that rolling is a cultural thing.

My horse wants to roll, he can roll to his heart’s content!

Jet will only roll when he’s on a lead rope if I tell him “find a good spot”. Then he sniffs, paws, and drops, gets up and does other side.
You can train them to do it on command. Never had jet try to do it unless I tell him to, when on a lead rope.

If you want to “get his itchies out” why not just take his blanket off and brush him? I hate having to ride around the holes in the footing from horses pawing or the piles they turn up from exploding once they stand from rolling. I get that rolling is an important release for a horse, but the indoor is not the right place for it, especially when others are riding.
