Light topic...What size fly sheet is your yearling wearing?

This is just random curiosity. Mine is in a 64" sheet marketed to ponies by Schnieders. Good chance of out-growing it before the season is up, because it fits well now. My farrier keeps telling me she is a large yearling, and I think she is rather small. I’ve never bothered to sheet a yearling before, but I’m trying to avoid sun bleach–so I have no frame of reference on sheet size.

TIA!

Not a fly sheet, but my then-yearling was in a 68" Winter sheet. Obviously that made him 6-ish months older than what you have.

Because that sizing is about width and length, instead of height, I think youngsters can fool you into thinking they are bigger or smaller than “normal”. The back can grow at different rates than the vertical bones, so your girl might be in an elongation phase, with a vertical phase to come.

I find it amusing that my 17h wide WB “only” wears a size 80, while my TB mare who is 2" shorter and not nearly as wide wears a 78. She has a longer back (not long, just a little longer than "ideal) while he has a pretty short back.

Yes, she is very narrow at this age. I plan to get a height measurement once she actually turns one. Her butt has been taller than her wither for about 9 months now.

My 16’2" refined WB wears a 78" blanket. I’m sure this one will be at least as large–less blood %.

My youngster had a 72" sheet for the winter. He turned two in April and is 15.3h.

My almost yearling (next month) was wearing a 64" sheet until the weather warmed up and I stopped blanketing.

He sticks 14.3hh right now.

On the other hand, my other yearling, now he has small parents was in a 60" all this winter and it was just starting to get snug when the weather warmed up. He sticks 14hh right now.

My yearling wore a 72" this time last year, now at 2 and 16.1  she’s wearing an 81"

Id measure yours to figure out what size and just sell it when its outgrown.

I am a cheapskate so I stuffed mine into my pony’s extra 69s when she was a little over a year. By the end of winter (18 months) I was letting my gelding’s extra 75s hang on her. Now they fit well and she will be 2 in July.

I don’t buy cheap intermediate blankies because like many babes she is tough on clothes and will ruin them immediately. I also blanket babes really lightly…only in extreme cold.

i think they get more tolerant with age–last year I bought her a fly mask (supermask without ears, the toughest) and she destroyed it in 2 days. This year she is not bothering a relatively flimsy Cashel.
