little black pony does Prelim show jumping

This weekend, my not-supposed-to-be-a pony did a Prelim combined test at the Carolina Horse Park.

For reasons that remain a mystery to me, the video peters out halfway around the course. I’m told, in vague terms, that the camera ‘died’, but I learned on the other CBES thread that there were donuts available ringside, and deep in my heart of hearts I’m living with the suspicion that the camera person decided to stop filming and reached for another donut.

The reason I suspect this is because it’s the kind of thing I might have done.

But who am I to complain? Lovely showjumping is lovely showjumping, even if Zizi clobbers fence #2. She doesn’t like to knock rails, so she jumped extra clean the rest of way round.

Enjoy.

Zizi at CBES

While I doubt this pony is for sale, I have loaded her onto my virtual trailer anyway.

This.

Love her!

Love her too

She looks like FUN!

Interesting technique she has. Who was riding? You?

You might need an extra trailer for her ego. And I hope that your other horses will be happy living under a very strict dictatorship. She’s #1 at JMP Farm and even the most alpha geldings wilt in her presence.

Not me. Glenbaer. They do good work together so I just watch.

I’m curious – what do you find interesting about her technique? One quality that is very striking about her is how comfortable she is in the air. She can make adjustments over fences, like she does when she knocks that rail. She also has a lot of speed off the ground.

We have a half-sibling – by the same stallion, Super Star – on the way for next year out of our OTTB Kissy Kiss.

My virtual trailer can fit 12 horses, so I think we’re good to go.

LBP is totally Awe-Some!

She makes it look so effortless & fun I am sorely tempted to try my own LBB(ay)P and see if he has the chops.

OTOH, since he is broke to drive & I am {ahem} O-L-D, I think I’ll just rewatch that video several hundred times more

Wow at the effort she makes after she has that first rail! She looks like a very cool mare.

i can’t find the exact words to describe what is so interesting, but I’ll try. It’s as if she lifts, gets her front end up and over, and then somehow manages to hop/lift her hindquarters up even higher. It’s especially noticeable at the second jump of the last videoed combination. It’s very quick which is why it reminded me of a hop.

Great things come in small packages!

Yes. This is exactly what happens. She jumps up…and up. You really do feel it when you’re riding her. You lift twice in the air.

Up up & away she says  Lovely mare!

I love her!

I laughed when she was coming to the second fence and Andrea said, “come back to me please” and the little mare said “I can do it, leave me alone” (or maybe “f off, I know what I’m doing”) and then she was veeeeery careful to the next fence after she pulled the rail.

Great little jumper!

So when is she going intermediate?

What a lovely ride that was to watch (even with the 1 rail down). The rider was soft & effective; the horse was flowing, happy, & talented.

Is she really a pony?? I want her. So badly. I have teleportation, not a virtual trailer. Does that mean I can beat the others to your door?

We’ll get to it eventually. I think she has a Prelim HT coming up.

However, the pony has more difficult things in her immediate future. Tomorrow, I will be taking a jumping lesson on her. Poor pony. Lucky me.

To the first question, yes and no.

Zizi is 14.2hh. We went through a phase – years-long – where we thought she was going to reach 15hh. Didn’t happen.

Zizi isn’t a pony by design or breeding. Her dam is a 16hh OTTB. Sire is a 15.2hh Akhal-Teke. Her half-sisters are 16hh/16.1hh. Sire doesn’t produce ponies unless he’s bred to small ponies.

I was expecting something about 15.3hh, but from the beginning, Zizi was tiny. This is Zizi at one month.

But I have no complaints at all. She’s perfect the way she is.
