Live Stream of The National Horse Show

Posting at the same time supershorty. He looks so cheerful and enthusiastic, doesn’t he?

Well done Lillie.

Anyone know who is commenting?

Who are the commentators tonight? We were late turning it on & they haven’t re-introduced themselves.

Kinda wish the commentators wouldn’t keep trying to talk over each other.

Eddie Blue walks in an interesting fashion.

@JBCool I think it’s Steve Stephens and Brian Lookabill, maybe?

Yes Brian Lookabill and Steve Stephens. Awesome on both counts 😊

Thank you!

It is unfortunate that they were still talking about what a great venue Tryon is when Spencer Smith was half way through his round.

I understand that Steve Stephens isn’t an experienced announcer though, so mistakes are inevitable.

I would if my kid was riding this year. I think it shows a lack of tact and sensitivity especially to those of us who know how the relationship began and liked his wife. My good friend had to explain to her daughter who knows the full story, that if she had an equally good trip as this trainers kids, she would probably lose. That’s hard to swallow for a teenage girl that has seen the bad behavior but because of show politics can’t say anything. It’s not easy to file a protest with USEF and remain anonymous. This judge has a lot of pull and isn’t afraid to use it. If I still showed I would hesitate to say anything. Again, right is right and wrong is wrong and just because something is legal doesn’t make it right.

Creedance! What a round!

Bolding is mine. Why anyone would feel that they had to pose an unpleasant hypothetical scenario to a teenager. I think that’s a terrible thing to do to a child.

I was not able to watch the live feed at all today, but that is not a thing I have seen happen yet. Does it happen very often? I guess it could easily occur if you were far enough out of the saddle. I would think it would make a spooky noise for the horse, wouldn’t it? I had been thinking more along the lines of people who forget to unhook it before they get off.

Jimmy Torano posted on Facebook recently that he was going to wear a vest from now on, and encourage others to do so as well. One of his customers got hurt in a fall a few weeks ago, and I think the vest idea is a reaction to that occurrence. Plus Kevin Babington‘s wife is also very much behind the idea of wearing a vest. I have definitely seen them a lot more in the show ring lately, and they are pretty unobtrusive for the most part.

Huh. I tried to post a comment about the vest thing, and apparently it was flagged as possible spam, and it will not be visible until it is approved by moderator.

I’ve been posting on this board an awfully long time, and I’ve never had that happen before. Have a lot of other people had that experience? It’s new to me.

It happens a lot lately. It’s not you. If you tried to edit and/or had a link in the post it is sometimes flagged as spam. It’s one of the problems COTH is hoping to solve by transitioning to the new format.

Interesting, thanks. I did try to edit it. I don’t think it was flagged until then, come to think of it. Weird.

And now my post that was flagged is visible. 🤷”â™€ï¸

That’s what happens. It will show up a day or so later.

The problem with this, is that there has been a big advertising campaign by the air vest manufacturers, and endorsements by riders, of a safety product that has not been properly tested. This has been discussed at length on the Eventing forum for years. USEF and the FEI require body protectors, the hard type that jockeys wear, to be worn during the cross country phase of Eventing. Air vests can be worn over them but not without them underneath.

Anyone wearing an air vest, especially without a body protector underneath, is volunteering to be a test dummy for the manufacturer.

Perhaps @RAyers will come here and explain, though his patience may have been exhausted on the subject.

I’ve definitely set off an air vest during a refusal, but it was on cross country so i had the regular vest on underneath. Honestly, wearing an air vest without the vest underneath doesn’t sound comfortable or super safe. Coming from the eventing world it’s definitely kind of weird to start seeing so many hunter/jumpers start wearing the air vest when they never really caught on with the (cheaper & arguably more proven to be safe) normal foam-style vest.

This won’t win me any friends, but I don’t know how many people are wearing the vest for actual safety concerns vs wearing it because it’s the cool thing to do right now. Just like the “liquid titanium” snake oil masks.
