LIVESTREAM Safe Sport presentation from USHJA Annual Meeting - THIS afternoon/evening (Wednesday)

Thanks for this post. I’m grateful to the people who have taken the time to actually explain the appropriate application of this concept. In case someone mentions it at my child’s school, or in a different context in the future. Otherwise, I likely would have immediately associated “restorative justice” with these comments from DM and applying it to situations involving known sex abusers… and had an immediate negative reaction about the concept.

If nothing else, at least we have all learned a lot from these discussions concerning Safe Sport and sensible ways to address a really challenging issue. The professional legal folks who have commented on these threads in particular have done an excellent job of educating the rest of us.

I second this. So many posters have raised important and thought-provoking points about how to protect people (children and adults) from sexual abuse and sexual misconduct, and how to strike the balance among competing interests including protecting victims, procedural fairness, efficiency, cost, and other considerations. The discussion has forced us to learn about how SafeSport works and how it compares to other contexts–the workplace, criminal law, universities, etc. In addition we’ve received more data from SafeSport about its caseload and the results of its efforts. It’s been an excellent, very educational discussion.

I generally don’t watch his show, but Dr. Phil did an episode last week on the survivors of the abusive Olympic doctor, and he had a couple of them on the show to discuss what happened. One of the things they mentioned was that there were so many girls who were abused while the doctor was under investigation for years. Those girls might have been spared that abuse if he had been temporarily suspended during the investigation. There is a new book called The Girls which goes further into the subject.

The episode originally aired on 12/5/19 (season 18, episode 62) if anyone wants to track it down.

@anon6923113 Michael Cintas is now also suspended by safesport for multiple allegations of sexual abuse of minors.

Yeah - his recent sanctions were announced on the other thread. I wasn’t aware of any of the details. But His public social media posts back during 2019 were unforgettable.
