Jan Tops knows exactly what he’s doing when it comes to money. I suspect he found the perfect mark at the perfect time. He has been a precocious financier for 30 years and more, among other f-words.
Didn’t that Dodgers guy run them into the ground? Not sure how I feel about this. I don’t think positively.
Actually he bought the Dodgers cheap and sold them for the highest price in baseball history. Now the tour will be coming to the US in the future.

I wonder what venues will be chosen for the tour. I hope we have them on the East coast, West coast and down in Wellington. Even the new Tryon Equestrian Center will hopefully have a date.

The Dodgers were bankrupt. The sale was forced as a part of the bankruptcy/divorce settlement. The sale value of the team was really in the media rights to televise in a top market. It’s not like the team was bought and flipped after becoming profitable. Which hasn’t been clear from a lot of the articles I’ve read regarding the GCT tour buy-in, but is once I started doing a little reading on the ownership there
Initially I thought it sounded great, someone with experience running a sports team in the (literal) big leagues, might be a great thing for the sport. But given the past history, I have my reservations now. It will be interesting to see how it works out.
This was exactly how I understood it. He didn’t make the team profitable.
I am no follower of baseball but my recollection is that local sports followers were hopeful when McCourt bought the Dodgers but overjoyed when he sold them.
From Steve Lopez’s column in today’s LA Times. “This all began in 2012 when the Guggenheim Group…paid too much money…to buy the Dodgers from the hated Frank McCourt.”
Kind of Off Topic, but I’m watching the Monaco tour and dayyummm that ring is tiny!
You asked, and they delivered

I believe that’s a Longines Masters show. The only GCT shows in September are Lausanne and Vienna
We shall see what next year brings!
So if one were to attend the August 14 - 16 leg of the tour in London at the Horse Guards, Whitehall, which airport would be best, and what hotels are in the area? And is anyone else entertaining thoughts of going? I’ve never been to London, but have been watching online. I’d love to go!
Looks like Miami Beach is the first stop this year!

I wonder where it will be. I guess if they want to be liberal about the Miami Beach title it can be held at PBIEC…
Hopefully many more US stops to come in the coming years!

Its going to be in South Beach, the same place where they hold Miami Beach Polo every year. Literally on the beach in Miami. I’m so excited.

The venue is about as close to the center of the city as it is possible to be. a couple of hundred meters from Trafalgar Square. There are loads of hotels available, any of the London airports would do so come over and have a great time here. Horsey things happening all over the country all the time… racing at Newmarket on 14 and 15 August, less than an hour from London, Hartpury International eventing 13 -16 August, couple of hours from London in Gloucestershire, even have polo at Ham, in west London, on 16th August.
