Looking at a new saddle Butet vs CWD-Both Used

Y’all realize OP picked her saddle 5 years ago without ever sharing which she bought?

These saddles have extremely different shapes and feels for the rider–putting aside horse fit. Every time I ride in a CWD, my hips hurt for days afterward. But I know other people who love the feel of this saddle. I think the biggest difference is that the CWD twists just tend to be wider than the Butets–that may explain the differences in horse fit too. If you are a narrow twist person, I’d start with the Butet. If you are a wide twist person, the Butet.

I am on the Butet side of the divide, but since I know a bit about them, I will also mention that they do tend to last. I mostly ride in one made in 1998 that is just about ready to have the billets replaced but is otherwise holding up well.

I owned a CWD for years and loved it, but Butet was my second favorite saddle. Despite their many differences in feel, I loved both of them and had no problem riding in one or the other. My trainer also owned a Devoucoux and a Butet at the same time and rode in both, different saddles for different horses.
