Trencher Fed Pack.[/QUOTE]

Every farmer pack I know has the hounds kenneled. Paradise Valley Beagles were trencher fed until recently I believe.

Correct about PVB: previously trencher fed. Hounds moved up to Flagstaff a couple years ago to live with the new jt MB. With the exception of one hound, who lives with the other MB & is brought to meets.

Thank you everyone! A bit delayed but I really appreciate everyone’s responses! Thanks!! Off-topic: I have finally tried Higher Standards Saddle Soap… Fox’s Lavender Vanilla = Heaven!!

I also learned to ride at the James River Hunt Club. Mr Stafford knew my grandfather. My mother drove me from Chesapeake every week to take a lesson. I remember Cotton, Judge and Jubal!

Hi–I know this thread started some time ago but I would like to answer it.

I hunted with Phil Stafford and Dr. Wyatt, two of the Masters, back about 1976. FlyingcolorsHJ above was correct and I may even know her from that era. There were additional horses there–Mahood, a Thoroughbred jumper, The Mare, A Thoroughbred mare, and others. There were territories actually in Hampton but most of the fixtures were in Gloucester County. The Clubhouse was on Todd lane as indicated by a poster above, but I recall visiting in the 80s and the clumhouse had burned down due to local arsonists. I last saw saw Phil Stafford in the early 90’s but I searched on him and he passed in 2001. I’ve heard at the various hound shows and get-togethers that they still hunt with a farmer pack, but it was a strong hunt in its heyday and I recall fields of 40 riders or more. A former girlfriend knew of my fondness for Phil due to his role as a great mentor in my life and managed to dig up photos from these forums of what must have been his final hunts in the mid-to-late 90’s. The horse show attracted top talent and the hunt had wonderful breakfasts at many of the fixtures–I recall the blessing of the hounds taking place at a Plantation house called Eagle Point, and I actually came on a fox kill at a fixture called Timberneck which now seems to be a very nice development on the York River near the old ruins of Rosewell. It was an amazing time for me as I was 13 and 14 years old and had been a Western Rider but I began riding English and jumping…my love of horses continues to this day as I’ve hunted with many of the local hunts and have continued my western riding as well doing cattle drives on my family Ranch out west and to my local farm in Rappahannock County. I would enjoy any more information on anyone that rode with Phil Stafford or has knowledge of what has become of the James River Hunt.

I just texted a friend who hunts with them occasionally. She said they are still hunting and sent me the Master’s contact info. I will gladly pm if you’d like it.

I would love to see these photos! Are they posted somewhere?
