Insurance companies love to have someone to offload their costs to.
When my horse stepped on my toe and I ended up in ER, the nurses kept trying to find someone else to be accountable. Was it someone else’s horse, was it some public stable. Each nurse kept asking.
Being sued for a fall on someone else’s sidewalk or access (the last few feet of your driveway) is not unlikely, IMO based on my ER experience. However, I’m not in the insurance business.
In NYC slip and fall on sidewalks(by law maintained but not owned by the building owner is a cottage industry.
Please provide a quote where the OP said he has a problem with manure left on the edge of the grass. He has said he doesn’t mind it the grass if it is spread out.
Seriously, do you have a problem with reading comprehension?
How about a sign first, so you are communicating with the riders.
An (outdoor) camera also changes peoples behavior.
And what does he say after that?
And what does he say in the five quotes I posted above?
Right?! And OP has been consistent since go. How does that = and now he’s complaining about…?
And, again I ask, when did we learn he was unfamiliar with country living and country roads?
Given that his grandparents house has been there for 50 years (before the horse farm!) and he’s close enough to them to be the heir to their property, the easier leap would be to think that he IS familiar with country living and country roads having spent his youth visiting his grandparents.
And, like many of us, he may have come from his own country home to his grandparents’ country home. Why make up stuff to characterise this person?
This is in the same paragraph as what you quoted. You took your quote out of context.
I swear, you would argue with the sunrise and boo a cure a cancer if it wasn’t your idea first.
It says they don’t want the horses to poop while passing the house, and that they went to complain to the BO/BM about it.
I’m guessing with a very narrow road that where their actual property starts is not entirely clear. If there’s a ditch, there’s a culvert under the drive, and if there’s a culvert under the drive you’re talking a foot or two of flat ground that would be “owned” by the OP. I don’t know about you but I give those things a wide berth.
I’d bet a buck fifty the horses pooped in the road, but in front of the driveway. That’s why he’s getting so much flack. Is it still rude of the horse people to leave it there? Probably. But if it isn’t his land, I’m not surprised by the horse people’s response. It would make it a lot more clear why he’s having to ask instead of just telling them to quit.
Yup. You are. A much more concise way of saying drawing conclusions from facts not in evidence. You absolutely do not know, and your refuse to give the very reasonable OP the slightest benefit of the doubt.
I have no idea why this is a hill you want to die on.
The OP is no longer responding, because he got the advice he was looking from reasonable posters.
I’m going to tap out because arguing with you exhausts me and is a poor use of my resources.
All the best to you, and may your arguments bring you joy.
What I am amused about the most here is, the OP of this thread has been nothing but patient and understanding in their posts. Giving more details. Explaining what is going on. Trying to understand people’s responses. But for some reasons that make no sense, some poster(s) are trying to ignore that fact and paint the OP with this crazy person brush.
The OP came here with a very legitimate question, asking horse people what they should do about a problem with horses.
The OP followed the advice given.
Why do you bet against this person at every turn? Why do you assume he is unfamiliar with country life? Why do you assume the riders are in the right and he’s in the wrong? Why do you assume anything, honestly.
You make up arguments and line up facts against this guy, but none of those facts have been confirmed. This is not an okay way for riders to treat neighbours. There is nothing mystical and magical about country living. Those of us in the country have to be considerate of our neighbours especially when we introduce a riding facility into an area that never had one before. That’s on the horse folks, not the neighbours. THEY are the Johnnies-come-lately.
Okay, you should stop while you’re ahead.
You are starting to make a lot of illogical leaps and not offering sound advice because of it; all in the name of being right or having the last word.
THIS!!
Because my BS meter is going off on this whole thing.
Not one, but SEVERAL horse people have said to the OP that they’re entitled to poop ON his driveway?
Give me a break.
Buck fifty he’s complaining about the poop on the road.
You are very mean spirited towards a reasonable OP. That sux.
OP: promise, most horse people/country people are NOT like the ones you are dealing with or some here.
Do you really think the law is the only thing that determines what’s right and wrong?
If there weren’t laws dictating that you have to pick up your dogs shit, would you just leave it there?
Or would you still pick it up, because it’s gross and no one wants to step in that?
Can you understand that some people might have that same “ick” response to other types of poop?
The barn could have said “I’m so sorry, we didn’t realize it was a problem, we’ll do our best to come back and pick up poop”. Because even if it’s not legislated, it’s the neighborly thing to do and goes a long way to maintaining their access down this road.
But no. They were indignant instead. And, if this grassy verge is the only safe access this way, and the OP here fences to the road, they may have lost this riding space. For what? Because they can legally shit there (maybe)?
Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Good lord, it’s just really not that hard to be nice.
I don’t find them reasonable. I said that from the start. This is not a hill I would ever pick to die on. But if it’s the one, involve the law if they’re actually on your land. Otherwise, I don’t think there’s recourse and he’s making enemies for no reason.
Maybe they should, but they haven’t done that. Encouraging OP to escalate further by going to the BO, when he’s already dug a decently deep grave with maintaining friendly relations (again, right or wrong is absolutely irrelevant here, it’s the facts of the matter that the horse people are not receptive) is crappy advice.
If the poop is on the road, there is no legal recourse. Even if it’s right in front of your driveway. The horse people are not receptive to picking it up. Now what?
You’re entirely missing that the barn has dug a decently deep grave with maintaining friendly relations. They’re the party that needs something in this situation–access.
The OP would like to not have shit in his drive. He asked nicely. Now the barn faces the consequence of being uninterested in being neighborly.
THIS RIGHT HERE is how riding space is lost. It’s not because a home owner has an unreasonable request to not have to deal with horse shit in their drive. It’s because the barn has an unreasonable response.
As for what to do? Frankly, it’s the right time of year for one of those 12 foot skeletons and a rockin halloween display.
