This horse, while wonderful, is a notorious loon. She was going to run off after any unplanned dismount. I’m sure dragging equipment didn’t help, but I doubt it added too much to the reaction.
Why do people always go after bonnets and say they are a trend when they are actually an extremely useful and valuable piece of equipment.
Literally had a judge write “too bad about the bugs” on a test lol and I was even wearing a bonnet but my mare was so bothered by the bugs, she truly hates them anywhere near her face.
Consider yourself lucky you don’t show where there are bugs. Must be nice!!!
As for throat latches, rather them loose than strangling my horse. The only reason many of us even have one on the bridle is because the rules call for it.
I’ll keep my bonnet and loose throat latch and happy comfy horse
foal was unharmed, bolt cutters were needed to free it, the foal later went on to be an emotional support animal for retirement home in Utah
buy ever since, everything has been looked at as what could even remotely go wrong
Glad all worked out well! And that’s pretty cool that the foal became a support animal. Yes, we really do need to imagine things at the worst to help prevent accidents if we can.
It makes me crazy to see people do things that are obviously stupid around horses.
It’s hard enough to keep them in one piece even when you’re really trying hard to do everything right!
Agreed, though we’re also in a similar geographical area so maybe our experiences are not the norm, but I would much rather have a fly bonnet and allow my horse to be able to focus on the jumps instead of on the cloud of black flies or deer flies following us around.
Showing in the hunters around here at many venues requires some careful and repeated fly spray application to the ears to prevent head shaking due to the bugs.
This is remarkable. Just crazy.
That said, and trying to not make judgement, I do wonder at what point do you call it a day? I don’t have an answer, but the fact that the horse fell half down and the rider fell nearly off makes me think that retiring may have been the better, safer, more humane option.
Sometimes it just isn’t your day.
