GOOD morning !
Jingles & AO ~ Always Optimistic !
Smiling for all involved …
MAJOR CONTINUED jingles!!! I like the good update, but I’ll rest when I see you say she is home. SO sorry for you… What a bunch of really crappy luck, ugh.
Adding my jingles…………
Hope the tide has turned and your mare is on the way to full recovery. How devastating though … sending you light and positive energy.
We had several up-downs last week. The mare kept spiking a fever and ultrasounds show some sort of “thing” about the size of cantaloupe in her uterus. Her incision (literally 3’ long) looks great, and the mass is either a clot from some slow bleeding, a clot that just hasn’t resolved yet, or a giant abscess. They don’t want to biopsy it, b/c if it’s an abscess they don’t want to puncture it and dump that much crap into her. The hope is the abx will address it, but we’ll have to do ultrasounds every 2 weeks for a while to monitor. She’s currently on 3x different abx, and is feeling good. We were able to pick her up Saturday afternoon!
She’s home and settled back into her nice bright corner stall. She has two windows to stick her head out and watch her friends in the paddocks near the barn. She’s not great about the meds, especially the dinner portion where she gets 28 different pills and capsules.
She still has significant edema and her belly is still very large and swollen (not pregnancy levels, but noticeably)
We’re pretty much following a post- colic surgery protocol: stall rest for a month, tiny medical paddock for a month, she can go out in her easy-going group turnout in May, and we can start her back in light work in June, if we want to.
I’ll feel better once that mass resolves, and there’s still a small chance it’ll become a tumor. But for now, Miss Mare is home, feeling good, and it’s just wonderful to see her head sticking out over the stall guard every time I walk in the barn. Thanks to all for the jingles and positive vibes!
[B]Sunshine and steady recovery for your beloved mare ~
((hugs)) of comfort for everyone who loves her ~
SO glad she is home !
