Lucinda Green clinic - she requested a skullcap - thoughts?

Gotcha. Fingers crossed!

I expect everyone to report back with a full clinic report!

Would be happy to! In fact, I was going to ask whether anyone wanted a recap; I recap all my competitions on Facebook where my mare has a small fan club

I could see the use in having a martingale on for the sake of using it as a neckstrap in a tricky situation whilst going xc. The Skullcap I used to wear years ago at all times but they seem to have gone out of fashion.

Have fun Dr D!!! I know Lucinda can be hard over on her equipment ideas - I once had my big horse at Wingreen with her and she INSISTED I take his bell boots off - she is convinced they are death traps (and I think once had a crash or near crash because a horse stepped on his boot coming up a bank). Mine had Velcro and would have ripped under real duress… I told her the horse was guaranteed to pull a front shoe without them. She insisted. Horse pulled a front shoe immediately and that was the end of my clinic.

That being said she is a blast and a half to ride with. I’ll be looking for your recap!

Definitely not a new concept made by Lucinda. Many eventers run xc by this idea. If you get bopped in the head ( fall or whatever), more chance of the brim coming back at your head. Me, I wear a skull cap xc and regular brimmed helmet in sj and dressage.

Yes, totally understand the concept of the skull cap and why it is deemed “safer” re: the brim - I just don’t happen to have one.

Back when I was eventing and in Pony Club in the early 1970s (and doing Prelim at the age of 15 - which was definitely not the best idea at the time, but those were different times!), some riders used skullcaps – but many of us just used our regular helmets, which at the time were SO not ASTM certified :flushed: Yikes.

I broke my nose a few years ago schooling at Windurra bc the brim of my One K didn’t break or bend. I always use a skull cap now.

I audited a Lucinda clinic, and it was incredible just to watch her. One of the few clinics I’ve seen where every rider got 100% equal attention.

She is very anti-boot, though, and is concerned about them causing rather than preventing more injuries for a variety of reasons, so your story doesn’t surprise me. She’s of the philosophy to do without if you can, and thinks many people boot up more due to marketing than need-obviously not in your case!:joy:

She does experiment with different bit setups, including a new (to me) snaffle with two attached reins.

Interestingly enough, the Charles Owen skullcap blew off a rider’s head at my attended clinic! So a well-fit helmet is more important than anything!

Just because it’s new and not a lot of people know this… Trauma Void (FINALLY) brought their Lynx fitted size skullcap to the USA.

It’s sub $250 and has MIPS and is one of the top rated models from the most recent Folksam Helmet Study last year in Sweden.

I believe Back on Track is putting this model on the Va Tech list for first round helmets to be tested, but don’t quote me on that. I know everyone was talking to each other, and I know what BOT implied… but who knows what they actually said or agreed to.
